How can I login using SSH? I just get "no supported authentication method available" after providing the login name.

Do I have to do regular updates (apt-get update && upgrade)?

You can't login on the device remotely when you use the base image. Updates are done automatically, there is no need for you to login. To get the MAC address of your device, simply check the logs of your DHCP server.
