So my current battery bank has 1 or 2 damaged cells where No.3 is getting down to 2.4v even when the over all charge is 32% so I am running out of time for this pack. The mb56 are much higher capacity and it was suggested that the sbms won't have enough power to balance them properly. Do I need to get an active balancer like the JK 8S Active Balancer or the Heltec Active Balancer 8S 5A.

The MB56 has the same capacity as two of the classic cells so no issue for SBMS0 to keep the pack in balance. My battery is made with groups of two 280Ah cells in parallel so the same as having MB56 cells.
The overall charge is likely not 32%. A photo of the discharge pack will be useful.
No cell should ever be able to get down to 2.4V if the SBMS is installed correctly. Likely you have one or more loads that is not controlled by the SBMS120 else no cell will ever get below 2.8V as at 2.8V SBMS will turn off all loads (if installed correctly so it can do that).

The inverter I bought didn't have the type of on/off switch the sbms can control so my battery got drained a couple times which is why Im having problems now. I have a victron now for base loads with old inverter only used for big loads briefly so won't happen again with new batteries. 6 years ago it cost me $4500aud for 9kw, now I can get 16kw for $2000aud so while I'd rather not be spending more money the extra capacity will make my life a little easier for a not painful amount of money. Now I just need a practical way to get more solar to take full advantage of that capacity. Thanks for the quick reply as always :)
