3D-Brothers are a small Romanian company that asked permission to build a variant of the SBMS40 and they manufacture those in China.
Seems like they tried to cost optimize by reducing the number of PCB's so is no longer an enclosure also PCB's are green probably because that is what the accept for assembly in China.

I personally would not be happy that they use the Electrodacus name on a lower quality product.

Barry,

I gave them permission to make a copy of the SBMS40 did not know how they will change it. I knew they will need to make modifications as no manufacturer will produce the SBMS40 as it was designed by be since it is a challenge to mass produce it due to the way it is constructed with two laminated PCB's for the main board.
I do not think they are quite ready and they will likely send me a unit to check. Guess they used mostly the same components cutting costs mostly on the PCB's and some of the connectors tho it looks fairly bad if they did not mess anything it should still work like the SBMS40.
I don't really have much info they only had a few questions and sent me a small video of this unit that I considered was just a prototype but maybe that is what they want as the final production unit.

Brian,

They will think it will be more wrong not to mention Electrodacus as they did not made the design that is open source so anyone can build their own SBMS if they want and they rearranged the parts for more easy and inexpensive manufacturing asked me for permission and mentioned on the front of the unit that it was redesigned by them.
While I agree it looks lower quality and (subjectively) uglier due to green PCB instead of Yellow/Orange it was their design choice to do this to save on cost and they did nothing wrong as they asked me for permission in exchange for a small percentage of the profits.

Where to buy them, or key words to search? I searched sbms, solar bms on ebay uk and aliexpress.com . I would like to know what the cost is after there cost optimisations/cutting :). However sbms40 is not what i need. if anything, its sbms0 :). Curious to see how they did it. Good your getting paid :o. thats nice of them. Letting guys know there rights and where it came from on the silk screen, is also good.

Alexander,
No idea what the cost will be or when they will be available (not available at this time). My understanding is that they will do a Kickstarter and will work with Jehu maybe other youtubers for promotion.

Dacian,

Do you know if the green version or SBMS40 has a wifi chip in it? And it is compatible with SBMS.html file?

I'm just curious because it would be another target for the iOS / Android / Desktop app, I'm developing.

Thanks!

Philip,

Sorry I do not have all the details but I assume they will also have the ESP32 but not sure. They may decide to use the ESP8266 as in the SBMS60/SBMS100 to save a bit more or even remove it completely. They probably not even decided as I do not think they have more than 1 or 2 prototypes at this time.

You might reach out to Jehu who's doing the review.
He sometimes replies to video comments or you could try his email.

Dacian, i hate knock off's in the solar industry they rippoff the original designer/creator (you) & the end user with usually unsafe products but that is good to hear they are including you & paying you a percentage of their sales and letting people know it's a knock off tribute to the real "ElectroDacus" full disclosure takes some of the stink outta the unit but it's still ugly :)  I was shocked to see Jehu showing it in his video as he did a ElectroDacus introduction video some time ago but never did a follow up video showing it in action, i was tempted to comment on his video asking him what the hell your promoting a knock off ? next video smash it !  lol  but i guess their going about this the right way and i'm sure your looking forward to getting your hands on one to see what they have done to your design. Have fun dissecting it but be sure to take some gravol before opening the box  ;)   Cheers !

Wadzanai,

Thanks for posting the link. Someone asked what WiFi module they are using and it seems is the ESP12F a module based on the ESP8266 so it will not be compatible with the Robert firmware as he made that for ESP32 based WiFi modules that I use on SBMS40,SBMS120 and SBMS0 (addon WiFi/USB).
