Any ideas? What's the best way to reboot the SBMS0 just disconnecting the 10 pin socket at the back?

Yes you need to disconnect and reconnect the 12 pin ribbon cable and screen should look normal. There may have been a strong electromagnetic pulse that corrupted the communication between the LCD and micro controller and resulted in wrong LCD settings.
