For starts, the 3D controls are under the "Window" menu, not the "View" menu.

The term "View" is used to control the different views of a Cell
(like schematic, layout, Verilog, etc.) and not the views on the display.

If you still cannot get 3D to work, try adding in the "Static Free
Software Extras" which is an additional JAR file that adds some extra
3D facilities.

What do you mean by "execute from"? The Static Free Software Extras must be combined with the GNU JAR file, as described here:
http://www.staticfreesoft.com/jmanual/mchap01-05.html

Make sure you download the extras file properly (it's binary). That might account for the corruption.

If you still can't get it to work, please send EXACT steps that you take and the messages that you get.

We found a bug in the "Static Free Software Extras: JAR file and we fixed it.

You might want to try downloading it again and see if it helps.

Hi,
I have a similar problem.  I tried load Electric-9-02 with ElectricSFS-9.02 (both downloaded from staticfreesoft.com). I'm working under SO GNU/Linux (debian squeeze). I ran the following script:

bash-terminal:$ java -classpath electric-9.02.jar:electricSFS-9.02.jar com.sun.electric.Launcher

but, I don't have the option "Windows->3D".
I go to "Help -> Abaut Electric -> Plugins", but I see "java3D: not Installed"

More information:
electric-9.02.jar -> ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/electric/electric-9.02.jar

Hi Steven,
I tried run again electricSFS-9.02.jar and electric-9.02.jar (from
staticfreesoft.com(the new files)) but I don't have 3D options in
"windows->3D".
I downloaded the gnu version electric-9.02 and I have the similar
problem. However, I downloaded electric-8.10.jar (older version) and
it run very good. It version has 3D option.
I'm not a java programmer, but...
somebody can make a new version .jar file included the 3d option,
similar to electric-8.10.jar?

Thanks!

Hi there

Are you using the latest electricSFS-9.02.jar? That jar got patched some
days ago to fix the missing J3DUtils issue. Please note that Electric
9.01 was packaged in a different way so there was no need of electricSFS
for the 3D plugin.

Checking the install via Help/About Electric/Plugins the list reports "Installed Java3d: Version 1.5.2 fcs (build4)" and "Missing utils.J3DUtils". The latter message does not occur when running Electric 9.01. The following lists how each version is envoked,

Gilda,

Yes, it works now.  After noting the time stamp on the binaries in your previous message I decided to update my binaries so now everything works.  Well, there is one exception which may not be a high priority attempting to animate the demo cell fails.  The following sequence fails,

Help/3d Showcase/load library, Help/3d Showcase/3d View of Cage Cell, Help/3d Showcase/Animate Cage Cell reports "Can't open 3D demo file 'helphtml/demoCage.j3d'".  Otherwise, the binary is functional, thanks.

Gilda,

Downloading the  electricSFS-9.02.jar http://www.staticfreesoft.com/electricSFS-9.02.jar  today (Sept 15, 2012) yields a much smaller file size and  non-functioning 3D. Is it possible the patch has been overwritten by the original?

Matias,

What is the size of the file called /home/matias/Escritorio/EAMTA/Electric/electricSFS-9.02.jar and when did you download it?

You need both jar files, and "linking" them using classpasch.

In my case:
java -classpath /home/matias/Escritorio/EAMTA/Electric/electricBinary-9.02.jar:/home/matias/Escritorio/EAMTA/Electric/electricSFS-9.02.jar com.sun.electric.Launcher

Hope that helps. ;)
