double helpings of german techno in prospect this wknd - johannes heil
plays a live set on saturday in tbmc. v good producer, and support is
from roman flugel of the excellent alter ego.

did anyone make it to booka shade last week? heard mixed reports...
basically, if you'd seen them before, there were no surprises, + they
only played for 55 minutes and finished at 2.30.

I look forwards to hearing that at home later but I won't be able to
go to the gig. I went to the Booka Shade show. It was a real pain
actually. We were there by half eleven figuring the band wouldn't
start until about half twelve. They came on at half one! I left at
two, lucky I didn't stick around. Seriously disappointed with both the
promoter for not making it clearer when the band would be taking the
stage and also with the band for not coming on earlier (or playing
longer, not that I can complain really as I didn't hang around). I
would seriously hesitate before going near Bodytonic gigs in future.
It was also a warning that I am not good at gigs stone cold sober, had
I had a couple of drinks I would have been fine with the wait :) I was
surprised that it's plastic glasses only. I always feel that clubs
should charge less when they do that kind of thing.

On the plus side the sound is amazing there and at least I got to see
what I wanted including a remix of Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman'
which was fantastic!

Hey guys,

Sorry for not being on the site before today. Got home from my SUNNY
South African holiday two weeks ago, and it's been mad busy for me
since. Had a blast, you should all head down to Cape Town if you ever
get the chance, it's a stunning city !!!

My fingers are itching to get behind my decks again, since I've not
touched them for over a month, so having some MAJOR withdrawl
symptoms.

A bit of news on my side is that I will be playing Tripod's upstairs
floor on Friday 20 April, together with two friends of mine, should be
a good night, so if anyone is about, it would be great to have some
support there. The Plump DJ's are doing the main floor that night, but
we will keep the "none Break Beat" possy happy with our housey/electro/
tech sounds ...

On another not, the massive collaboration that is One + One (aka James
Zabiela and Nic Fancuilli) are taking centre stage at Tripod on Friday
30 March. I saw Zabiela in Cape Town a few weeks back, and the guy
blew my mind. Amazing deck skills, so it promises to be a brilliant
night. If anyone is going, let me know, and if you're not, please send
a short message with a brief description (not more than 2000 words)
with the reasons why you are not going !!! Plus, it's doubling up as
my Birthday party, so all the more reason to be there ...

I've got some reading to do now to catch up on what people have been
talking about ... See you in another post ...

Cheers
Marcus

The 30th sounds like a plan Marcus...the irish in me simply won't let
pass the excuse for a piss up...a music orientated one is even
better!! Well that and the fact that my attempt at writing an excuse
not to go only managed to cap 1891 words so it looks like its outta my
hands...oh well....so let me know the details, time and what not...

Oh and hey check out my bebo page in a few days, well i'm hoping to
upload some tracks there...on the off chance that anyone wants to hear
'em....im at http://retrinityed.bebo.com

Oh and brian if you're reading i'm hoping to get round to giving that
sidechaining a bash later on so i'll let you know how it goes or if i
can offer any tips....

Happy belated birthday Markus. My apologies for not having got on to
you sooner but things are animal at the moment at home and work!

I won't make the 20th, sorry lads, I have to head back to Geneva for
the weekend. Have a good one though, I will be at the next one for
sure!

My sister lived in Cape Town for a few years, she has never been less
than enthused about it as a city. I would really love to go.

Also, who bought their Electric Picnic tickets? 226.50!! The line up
had better be fantastic or these bad boys are going on ebay!

Well, hello Kevin ... Good to see you're still around.

Sorry you can't make the 20th, it should be a good night. Still not
sure what my set will entail, but will probably have a more minimal
slant to things. As for Electric Picnic, we will be there. Tickets mad
expensive though, and then you have to pay an extra 400 quid to book a
basic little podpad !!! MADNESS !!! So, a tent will be bought in due
course ... As for the line up, only one reason we're going and that
reason is Bjork ... Been waiting to see her live for years, and I'd
say she will be fantastic. I'm sure the line up will become bigger
than George Bushes world domination plans ...

Ha ha! Well put re. Line up. I'm looking wistfully over at Oxegen
(trust me people, I never thought I'd say that!) and their line up.
Daft Punk? I'd love to see them again for sure. There are one or two
others but no point in depressing myself!

Is anyone going to the Garden Party? I think I'm only able for one
festival this year but if there was a group I'd be fairly tempted.
Still working on friends, especially around the kidney area. Some of
them must get interested soon!

I think someone's age is starting to show !!! Only fit for one
festival this year ... ha ha ...

But I have to agree. I think it will probably only be Electric Picnic
for us this year. Groove Armada are supposed to be doing their thing
(Lovebox live) at Ardgillan Castle sometime this year. It's a stunning
venue, and they are superb live, well worth a watch.

Not so sure about Oxegen, not to fond of the line up this year.

ps ... I'm selling a kidney if you need help in that department ... ha

I take offence at that. You are older than me man! Just found out one
of my favourite artists (Caribou) is releasing a new album in August.
Hopefully this means he'll add himself to EP. I doubt he's big enough
but still, one can only hope.

I skipped G.A. last year to dance in Nokia tent thing outside of
complex. Guilt will probably mean that I check them out if they do
come back :)

Oh noes! Not Tallaght people. Lock the doors and drive faster :) There was one other though, he came at the beginning but didn't really stick around that long.

I worry that those who didn't get Oxegen tix might come to EP. It's already rock-y enough compared to previous years. V disappointed with the way the last one and this one (or so it seems) are all retro with few new bands of note. That and they seem to not have the headliners that other festivals are getting. The dance tent had better be varied this year or I'm not going to bother going in, it was frightening full of people on yokes all dancing to music that seemed to have the same BPM all weekend. I am a cranky bollix I know. I would say the tickets won't last that long so decide quickly.

Oh yea what did happen to that guy?? Hell of a way to blow a
grand...hope he got some of it back...

Anyhoo...are u dissing EP Kevin, or Oxegen?? I had a ball at the last
EP, was at Oxegen 2005 and it was rubbish in comparison...oooh my wish
for the summer is that James Zabiela will play EP...ah but hes gonna
be in the states me thinks...I shall have to annoy him n get him 2 do
it next year...I may well go on about him a bit but hes just my man of
the moment...saw some vids on youtube lastnight, where hes doin some
dj tecs....fkn hot shit!! I'll put up some links later because i think
things like that combined with the computer music special with all the
freeware is the kinda stuff that'll see us former students really make
something of all the wisdom Les so colourfully provided...

Oh yea and hey guys check out my myspace profile...its a bit
funky...is there anyone else on there?? drop me a line if u
are...http://www.myspace.com/retrinityed

Later guys...i'm in work...must dash...

Well, I recon that if there was a good crowd going to EP, then we
could make it a good festival !!! I'm pretty sure there will be some
dodgy performances, but the great performances inbetween will really
be worthwhile. I hear what you're saying about the line up though.
They should really add a bit more modern diversity. I'm all for
underground good quality artists like Tiesto and the likes ... ha ha
ha ha ha ha ... seriously though, I thought EP was all about
leftfield ????? Never been, so it will be an experience all the
same ... As for the tickets, I bet that they will sell out a few weeks
before the event, so best get them now ... Pretty sure the line up
will become bigger over time ...

So true! I had an unfortunate friend who had to drive back on sunday
last year. After coping sober with me and the entire festival for the
day he was at the point of murder! What very nearly pushed him
completely over the edge was spending the drive home in a car with
drunk me telling him to lighten up. He still talks to me suprisingly
enough. Is anyone thinking about garden party? I'm liking the line up
so far!

I recon getting a tent for EP and just have a laugh all weekend is the
best way to go about it ...

Not sure about Garden Party. Carl Cox is a big draw. Seen him quite a
few times, and he is amazing. That's on the DJ front though, not sure
about the rest of it although Vitaic should be good as should the Pet
Shop Boys ... LONG LIVE THE 80's !!!!!

Ah but is there any other way to be at a festival than having a
laugh...sure thats what they're all about..i just gotta remember to
get an emergency charger this time, no phone last year, died on friday
night...not fun..

I haven't even had a chance to look at the line up for things, must
get the finger out on that one...been proper stuck into a couple of
tracks...belting them out does seem to be the way to go, well i'm
finding anyway...but i must have 50 copies of everything cuz of all
the saves so guys don't forget your saves...v.important...i'd hate to
see anyone lost a track they worked their ass off on...i've been
there, it really does blow...sure Marcus knows what i'm talking
about..and that reminds me, did you get that stuff back Marcus?? Hope
so...

Got some songs uploaded onto myspace...tho it might be tomorrow before
they're up properly..anyone interested can check them out at
http://www.myspace.com/TheRetrinityedCollection

Not sure how many gigs i'll be going to tho, there are some
investments i need to make in the software and equipment dept so i
shall have to see how it goes...but at the same time i really wanna
get listening to more live stuff...for the alteration factor and stuff
that usually goes on at a dj set...in other words...a whole big pile
of madness..

And Kevin...perhaps I should invest in a roof rack for the drive
home...if you're really good i'll let you be
the (drunken) siren... ;) ;)

Very sorry Kevin, it was there for the taking....its that whole Eddie
Murphy stand up thing...it just popped into my head...
Lets pretend for now its me tied to the roof rack...i'd much rather be
doing that than driving anyway...in fact, i might just...at least it
means i can get pissed and sure then i won't remember doing it,

Ha ha ha ha don't be worrying, it's a great mental image and something that I would seriously consider if the drink takes hold :)

Oh so finally them coppers did something clever...yea i'd well believe
that alright...I didn't leave till well into the afternoon on monday
last year..didn't see any coppers then...well ones that looked like
they were working anyway..it was quite funny actually, went back to
sleep at about 8 am when the fields were full of cars and woke up at
about 3pm to complete desertion...it was a bit like the apocalypse...

So its gonna be an eventful weekend this week...with Marcus's gig on
Friday night....can't wait...and then saturday night theres a bash
going on in, wheres that flier, ah i can't find it ...well its on near
christchurch, i think its on the corner at the very end of thomas
street, cornmarket, it think is the name of the area...anyway theres
a few djs, its got something to do with the spanish arts council and
the venue is supposed to get set up to be one of the finest sound
qualities dublin has seen, and against the olde dublin backdrop, its
probably gonna be quite nice...a mix of old vs new part of the
intended experience...old dublin vs new technology perhaps...something
like that...until i find the flier, questions are best directed at
Brian, he seems to be able to keep info in his head better, without
the need for pens and paper...bless me i've had 3 children, they take
10% of your memory each...well thats my excuse and i'm sticking to
it....

Brian is definitely knowledgeable! It was fairly subdued by the time we got there. Had a drink or two and then headed off. The only thing that was happening was the VJ and he wasn't showing what was happening so much as just doing it. I'll keep my open for the next one, hopefully they'll have sorted out all the glitches by then :)

Stasis DJs & VJs

21.04.07 | Tailor's Hall | BYOB* | 2000 [till v.late]

* Bring your own refreshments before 2230 only

This month sees a showcase of exceptional talent from Klitekture Records & [Stasis|Collective] in the unique venue of Tailors Hall, a 300 year old guild Hall owned by An Taisce. Run with support from the Spanish Arts Council, this is a non-for-profit event that will feature the finest in minimal techno and visual performance.

On April 21st, Tailors Hall, a short distance south of Christchurch, will see a transformation inside the building's metre-thick stone walls. The building will be fitted with one of the cleanest sound installs Dublin has ever seen as well as multi-screen projections from Stasis resident VJs and even a Klitekture Records merchandise stall. From a practical point of view, it provides different areas to showcase all our different works. From a conceptual point of view, the building itself provides a contrast been an old vs. new [an Old Dublin era vs. new cutting edge electronic era].

Klitekture Records was founded in 2001 by Luis Ortiz [L.O.D.] The name, derived from 'Klik', 'Techno' and 'Structure' has quickly become associated with some of the most exciting electronic music to be released over the past few years. Evidence of this can be seen with label manager, L.O.D's recent Quartz nomination for his track Soujourner 4x4. LOD has performed at some of the most prestigious festivals across the globe such as Sonar and Observatori and was the first Spanish artist to play at the infamous German Time Warp festival. Pep Gaya's uniquely sparce and dub-heavy sound has seen him play at events such as the Big Bang festival in San Sebastián alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin. Tupperwear are a 3-piece electronic band from the Canary Islands. They will be performing their fusion of trashy broken-beat, cavernous jazz and mangled minimalism live on a large, hardware-only set-up. Their recent album, Beton Insel, is a wonderful contrast of brutal crunches and haunting atmospherics. Be warned, this is not for the light-hearted! Klitekture's visual support comes from sister label Sinergy-Networks' head of video, Amanda Lopez.

You must be talking about LoveBox in the UK??? They are bringing it
over to Dublin this summer, which is waht I was refering to above. The
venie has not been confirmed yet, but it's supposed to be taking place
at Malahide Castle this summer.

they be here and a dj set over there do you think?? the plot
thickens....

Ableton is a DJ's dream. Been using it for about 6 months now, and
still leraning so much. I know I've only scratched the surface, so
still a long way to go. Still haven't touched the production side of
the program, so will keep you posted. Hoping to get into that in the
next couple of months.

Just remember that the Audiphile 2496 is for a desk top computer cause
it's an internal soundcard and has to be slotted into the back of the
machine. If you have a laptop, you will need an external soundcard, at
the moment I'm using an Audiophile Firewire soundcard. It's what I
used there on Friday night in Tripod, so the sound is pretty good out
of it. But for 80 it's not bad at all, I think I paid 120 for mine
about three years back.

Anyway, this topic is now moving away from this threads subject.

As for LoveBox, it sounds like it's going to be a corker. I've seen
Groove Armada play live and DJ a few times, and they are brilliant at
both. Their live shows pack a punch, and they are truely great
performers, so well worth checking them out.

Here's the dcetails on LoveBox. I think that at 80 euros, the tickets
are a bit pricey, but will give it some serious consideration. Ones to
check on this line up are Groove Armada (brilliant live show), Evil
Nine and Spirit Catcher are brilliant as well. Not sure about the
rest. Sasha has his moments but has not been up to scratch lately.

Winding is all good ... I will say, wait for the new album from the
lads ... The new single is pretty groovy alright, and the album
promises to be something special. If you guys are all going, then what
the hell, I'm in ... Should be a fun day in the sun
(hopefully !!!) ...

Goodbye Country Hello Nightclub had some brilliant tracks on it. Saw
them live just after they released that album, and they were
brilliant !!!
