Below is a feedback from one of Shridhar’s friend.
Where are we in terms of adding more data? Adding affidavit data in the database is extremely laborious process and so I am not sure if sites which have done such efforts (like myneta.info or http://www.empoweringindia.org/new/home.aspx) are willing to share the data. In fact, empoweringindia people asked me if we are willing to help them enter affidavit data in their database.

Map Portal from GS Lab
Hi Shridhar,
Frankly speaking, I have not understood the usage of GIS for information on election related data the way it is currently presented.
I am thinking aloud...
Does a 'voter' really require GIS to locate his/her constituency?
I don't think so, especially for parliamentary constituency. But it may be useful for assembly/municipal elections, where the constituencies are much smaller - one side of road falls under one constituency and the other side in another.
This interface is probably good for a 'researcher' (e.g. media person) or an information seeker.
Can 'results' of queries be mapped on India / state map?
such as,
highlight the constituencies from where candidates -
or any combination of such queries.
You may take a look at http://myneta.info/ to know about the information we are compiling.
If you come up with any concrete suggestions to display this information using your maps, I will take it up with other members of our core group.
Regards,
Nitin

Hey Nitin,
Please take a look at
Let me or Deepak know if you can give this real estate on your portal. We are looking for as many to benefit from this kind of visualization as possible. This is the only map-based portal for election data. Deepak, copied here, is 87 B Tech CS from IITB. He has produced it and is a CSR initiative at GS Lab.
Best regards.

Can you send us the link to your election map portal? Or any such link to get hands-on feel of the capabilities?
The currently launched ARD/NEW campaigns are at http://www.nationalelectionwatch.org/main/sms_helpline.

Subject: India Election Map Portal from GS LabAjit, Nitin:
GS Lab has developed a GIS-driven visualization portal framework based on Google Maps. We thought of using it to visualize the dynamics of the upcoming elections.
We have attached a one-pager about what the user can do. Most of the work is complete. We are looking for others who will expose this to the public.
We understand you are working on a forum for this. Do you think you can use a portal for the use cases described in the attached?
Please let us know asap. If not useful to you, are there others you can introduce us to?
Best regards.
Shridhar

I crawled the affidavit data. Need to parse it.
I don't think there is anything to crawl for census data, it just need
to be aggregated based on tahsil boundaries.
Can you implement a way to display legend in the map? It is important
to know what each color means in the map.

I think Prabhakar is working on it. Prabhakar any update?
