US SENATOR ELECTION 2010, North Carolina
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Senate_election_in_North_Carolina,_2010

Question: I'd like to ask you about the candidates running for the
North Carolina US Senate seat. I'm going to read you a list of
candidates and I would like for you to rate them on a scale of 1 to 7,
where 1 means not at all favorable, 4 means neither favorable or
unfavorable, and 7 means extremely favorable. As I read you each name,
please rate them on the scale of 1 to 7, and, if you don't recognize
the name, then you can simply tell me that. Marcus Williams.

And later Elon Univ. redid their range polls u this time using 1-10
scale not 1-7.

ELECTION 2010, North Carolina
Question: On a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 means highly qualified, 5
means moderately qualified, and 1 means not at all qualified, how do
you rate Elaine Marshall as a candidate for United States Senate?
Source: Elon University
Date: Sep. 24, 2010
Results:
not at all qualified 1 3.8%
2 1.3
unqualified 3 3.7

6 7.7
qualified 7 8.6
8 4.5
9 1.6
highly qualified 10 4.7
don't know 46.4
MEAN=5.72, MEDIAN=6
Field Date - Sep 20-23, 2010

Richard Burr:
not at all qualified 1 7.1%
2 1.9
unqualified 3 4.8
4 3.9
moderately qualified 5 21.8
6 10.3
qualified 7 14.8
8 9.2
9 2.7

don't know 16.0
MEAN=5.75, MEDIAN=6

Michael Beitler:
not at all qualified 1 2.0%
2 1.3
unqualified 3 2.3
4 3.1
moderately qualified 5 12.2
qualified 7 3.6
don't know 73.6
MEAN=4.17, MEDIAN=5

APPROVAL-STYLE POLL:
PPP found Marshall had 25% favorable – 21% unfavorable at end of August versus
38% - 42% for Burr
6% - 13% for Beitler.

Start of july, PP had
Favorable / Unfavorable
Richard Burr: 56 / 38
Elaine Marshall: 44 / 43

Burr wins slightly with MEAN using 1-10 scale.
Burr-Marshall tie with MEDIAN.
Marshall perhaps wins with APPROVAL (depends how treat "don't know"s).
Burr won official election easily with plurality, but it appears
this was due to a vote-split between his rivals; he would have
won only slightly with range 1-10 voting, indeed maybe lost to Marshall since
their margin is within this poll's statistical error.
