Jim -

A demo would be attractive, but the Elcano Project has made much less progress over the last year than anticipated.  We had a controller failure, which removed our drive-by-wire capability between August and February.  I have posted an 11 step program on the web site. We are currently on Step 4. This month I hope to demonstrate simple autonomous driving in a circle, without obstacle detection.  We might have something to show by July, but it is not clear at this point.

I'm once again leading demonstrations for this year's Automated Vehicles Symposium, this year with TRB and AUVSI joining forces 15 – 17 July at the Hyatt Regency SFO.   Once again, it will be the most significant event focused exclusively on vehicle automation in North America this year; we are expecting about 500 attendees plus news media coverage.  See the website at www.automatedvehiclessymposium.org.

Here is the general demo description we’ll soon insert into that website:  “An important component of the workshop is a combination of on-road and controlled area demonstrations, affording attendees understanding of automated vehicles.  We feel strongly that this dose of realism will ground attendees on what is current and give perspective on what is possible. Demonstrations will run from Tuesday morning through Thursday afternoon, with the number of attendees that can experience them dependent on the quantity of demonstrations.”

This year’s demo won’t be hosted at a university, so while insurance is required, there are many fewer issues.   Could you be interested?  If so, let’s talk:   what could be demonstrated?
