I've completed software that does the following:
C6 gets speed from the cyclometer and sends it to C4
C4 passes the serial message to C3
C3 reads a desired speed profile, finds current position by parsing the serial speed, and sends desired speed to C2
C2 parses desired and actual speed, and uses a PID controller to activate throttle or brakes.

I plan to test software today from 10 to 3 at UWB. Want to join me? We are close to getting this sucker to move by itself.

That's awesome Tyler!!

Let's get together soon. I would like to create a curriculum for my robotics class for highschooler using what I learned from the Elcano Project.

Best wishes,

I'm planning on working at UWB on Wednesday.  Want to join me?

Step 4 is close, but a roadblock has been inability of loading Arduino code to a Nano.  The serial line just seems to go away. Upload to a Mega works.  I've had this problem on 4 different computers.

Today I outlined Step 5, Obstacle avoidance.  Part of it will be installing the AS5043 angle sensor. The interface to C2 is over SPI and is not difficult. I bought bolts today on which to mount the magnets. I still need to upload the latest stuff to the web.

Are you using auto reset or manually resetting the nano?

I'm depending on the auto reset. On the Mac, the only choices for serial ports are bluetooth, which never works.

Sometimes autoreset on certain cables doesn't actually work and the commands get ignored and you have to manually reset the arduino. There's also a way to use an uno as a programmer and bypass the bootloader in a pinch.

I've been looking for a way to bypass the bootloader. I was going to buy a Dragon, but it is on the chip level instead of the board level and the Arduino chips are non-socketed surface mount. The various non-bootloader options all seem to depend on the serial line, which is the same problem I'm trying to fix.

Resetting doesn't do anything about giving a choice of a serial line that is really there.
