is there a possibility to configure Elasticray such that it is able to address several Elasticsearch nodes within a cluster?

looking at the code they need to be seperated by "," - is that correct?

Yes you can give list of comma separated servers as a value for elasticsearch.serverIP property in portal-ext.properties.
