metricbeats with elassandra?

I was looking at https://www.elastic.co/guide/en/elasticsearch/reference/current/configuring-metricbeat.html

which says from ES 6.5 you should be able to use metricbeats to monitor elasticsearch.  Is this available with Elassandra?   I'm running a 3 node cluster (6.8.4.13) but when I try to set "xpack.monitoring.collection.enabled": true"  it doesn't work (either via the API or setting this in  elasticsearch.yaml)
