Dear East London Beekeepers,
I am an artist in East London specialising in bronze casting. I am in
the process if developing casting that uses as locally sourced
materials as possible. I was wondering if any of your beekeepers have
waste wax from old frames that I could have or buy? I refine it myself
for modelling wax, it can be gritty and dirty. I am also careful to
burn the waste I take from it so as not to spread any bee diseases.
Would you possibly be able to circulate a request on your blog or mailing list?

Many beekeepers melt, filter and exchange wax with foundation manufacturers such as KBS.
This page on the Thorne website demonstrates the exchange prices.
The broader picture is that clean UK beeswax is in short supply, due mainly to the popularity of beekeeping. If you ask Peter Kemble at KBS he will repeat what he said to me last week: ‘I can’t get enough if it’.
You may find that a local London beekeeper has a small amount which they would be willing to part with, but it does depend on the amount you need.
