Because projects can easily move between developer computers, source control repositories, build servers, and so forth, it's highly impractical to keep the binary assemblies of NuGet packages directly bound to a project. Doing so would make each copy of the project unnecessarily bloated (and thereby waste space in source control repositories). It would also make it very difficult to update package binaries to newer versions as updates would have to be applied across all copies of the project.
The computer that receives a project, such as a build server obtaining a copy of the project as part of an automated deployment system, simply asks NuGet to restore dependencies whenever they're needed. Build systems like Azure DevOps provide "NuGet restore" steps for this exact purpose. Similarly, when developers obtain a copy of a project (as when cloning a repository), they can invoke command like nuget restore (NuGet CLI), dotnet restore (dotnet CLI), or Install-Package (Package Manager Console) to obtain all the necessary packages. Visual Studio, for its part, automatically restores packages when building a project (provided that automatic restore is enabled, as described on Package restore).
To make these processes work efficiently, NuGet does some behind-the-scenes optimizations. Most notably, NuGet manages a package cache and a global packages folder to shortcut installation and reinstallation. The cache avoids downloading a package that's already been installed on the machine. The global packages folder allows multiple projects to share the same installed package, thereby reducing NuGet's overall footprint on the computer. The cache and global packages folder are also very helpful when you're frequently restoring a larger number of packages, as on a build server. In order to demonstrate just how easy it can be to get hold of the information inside the TDS packets I will be using Network Monitor from Microsoft, this will capture the network packets sent and allow me to see the details of what is being sent. Other tools such as Wireshark will also provide a level of insight into what is being sent between the application and SQL Server. I have configured three Windows Server 2012 R2 systems, one with the client (SQLCMD), one with SQL Server, and finally one which will act as a router between the two subnets that each server is on. It is simply a case of issuing a T-SQL statement to the server that I want information from, in this case I will simply be querying for the names of the databases on the server.
Now we just need to locate the Response from the server, again this is easy to do given what we know. And here we can see that the payload contains quite a bit of information about the results that we want, additionally we get a bunch of useful metadata about data types.
One scenario where encrypting connections between SQL Server and applications is for monitoring tools. Typically a monitoring system will pull large amounts of metadata about a system including server configuration, databases, objects, etc. By having this obscured, it can make life a lot more difficult for anyone trying to get details of an environment. So selecting a monitoring tool that will work in this scenario is very important. If you are using SQL Sentry Performance Advisor or Event Manager you can be confident of enabling encrypted connections without impact to the functionality of the monitoring system.
Both of these will provide a level of protection against attackers between the client and the server, and it is perfectly possible to combine them to make life difficult for those attempting to get at the data in the system. When selecting which option to take it is important to understand how much effort is involved, for IPsec you would typically be looking to have this setup at the infrastructure level and need to involve the network admins to get this working. In the case of securing the SQL Server connections this requires less work and can commonly be implemented by the DBA team, once you have the appropriate certificates. As a result our system security is not quite as strong as we would like it to be, and that secure password that we created for our SQL Login is not so secure. Anyone who captured the packet with the T-SQL statement creating the login will now have both the login name, and the password. Additionally they will know which server it is on and can now go and log in with ease.

I had the exact same problem with version 7.0.0.0, and the lib causing my problem was Microsoft.Rest.ClientRuntime which somehow was referring to the wrong version (6.0.0.0) of Newtonsoft.json, despite the right dependency management in nugget (the right version of newtonsoft.json (7.0.0.0) was installed).
Anyone have issues with Mac clients in a Windows server environment? What kind of things do the Mac users complain about? Does it cause any issues on the back-end when it comes to backups or archives and such? Would love to hear your stories...

There are known issues with the latest versions of Mac OS X interacting with the native SMB/CIFS file-service, which one can workaround using a couple different methods.
If you have a large group of Mac users and want to offer them the best file-sharing experience and your budget allows, get ExtremeZ-IP for the server.
The only nugget that I want to throw out there for now is to make sure that your Macs Bound to the network time mirrors that of the Main Windows Domain Controller. If it is off by more than 3-5 minutes users may not able to log into their systems.
We use Dave for Mac from Thursby Software. It is installed on the workstations and the servers are left clean. We also use AdmitMac from Thursby as well. Using their products on a Mac in a Windows world make things much smoother.
The majority of issues we had with the broken Apple SMB stack were taken care of with Dave for Mac. We had been struggling with systems dropping off our Windows Server systems and Edit storage systems since 10.9, issues with file naming, and slowness. We put Dave on and the issues went away. The cost for Dave is lower than ExtremeZ-IP for our needs since we only put it on workstation side when we have issues with Apple's SMB. We have about a dozen Macs out of 170 systems. We have a load of Windows servers and SMB/CIFS storage systems.
My printers that are hosted on on my Win2008R2 server are rock solid when printing from PC or Mac.....which is more than I can say for the previous 5 years or so having them on a WGM (workgroup manager) Mac server. Don't get my wrong they did work but they were slightly problematic.....having to restart print queues from time to time.
