Amazon works on an exciting project to convert physical books into electronic version. The conversion is special and complex as we endeavor to retain the quality and aesthetics of the print version of the book. The converted books go through a series of automated steps interspersed with manual quality checks performed by Content Associate. The manual quality checks ensure the readability, grammar, rendering, uniformity of font size, letter thickness, specific grammar adherence etc are taken care of.
We are excited to augment our team with more Content Associate to perform the aforesaid manual quality checks. This opportunity will help you take away the following
- Experience of a professional shop floor environment that runs to meet daily, weekly and monthly targets
- Exposure to the publishing industry and the various processes involved - selection of popular books, filtering books on quality of print versions, scanning/re-type setting, auto conversions, creating e-book, and publishing on site and to end customers.
- Metrics calculation and report generation for management
- Understand software product development and testing processes and learn exclusive tools not commonly found in the industry elsewhere!

The contractor who joins will be required to perform quality checks on the books with from a spelling, grammar and presentation perspective and PASS or FAIL books based on agreed thresholds. They will also be working closely with management and software development teams to increase the quality and use of the software tools with better new features definition.
Content Associate - eBooks (Non Voice)
Responsibilities:
* Ensure quality and timely delivery of e-book editing, quality check and other work that is assigned
* Get trained on processes quickly and ramp up and deliver successfully on the assigned editing or QA work
* Understand the guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures and follow them without deviation
* Work on special testing projects on an as needed basis
* Be meticulous and accurate on uploading work and entering data pertaining to the work using web interfaces
* Use software tools for editing QA, workflow and data capture on a daily basis
* Be comfortable with capturing results, communicating and escalating failures and providing status reports
Requirements:
* A graduate in any field of study. Quantitative fields such as science and engineering preferred but not required
* Good familiarity with the Windows desktop environment and use of Word, Excel, IE, Firefox etc. are required
* Familiarity with unix commands and shell scripting is given preference but not required
* Understanding of concepts like XML and e-publishing will be given a plus point but is not required
* Familiarity with reading online content such as e-newspapers, websites and blogs desired
* Interest in working with online content is required
* High level of energy and proactive nature. A sense of ownership and drive and a willingness to accept the challenge of daily deadlines is essential
