Applet support is declining. Use a Java Web Start application (jnlp) instead of applet.

Hello,

The support of applets is declining. Chrome and Edge doesn't support applets anymore. Firefox will stop supporting applets at the end of 2016.

And Oracle / Sun will deprecate applets in Java 9.

Maybe Fedict can start a project in order to develop a Java Web Start application that reads the eID cards.

So instead of loading an eID applet, the user clicks on the Java Web Start application link (eid_webstart.jnlp).

This link start the application that show the same popup as the eID applet (the popup showing "Please insert your eID card").

We are aware of this. Because of that, the official position of Fedict
is currently that the applet is deprecated.
