Hi Coen,

Yes, that is theoretically possible. You'll have to provide a way to have the add-on to interact with your website (there are various ways of doing that, depending on the browser in use), and you'll have to give the add-on permission to interact with a native application (https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/nativeMessaging shows you how to do that). Then, you'll also need to write the native application that does the actual native messaging.

Unfortunately, we don't have a readymade solution for this, so you'll have to write the code yourself to do this.

I'm working on a feature to read card data and get it into Chrome. I am able to read a BE eID card using eID Viewer from https://eid.belgium.be/en. I want to use this reading feature in Chrome. I already saw some java applets, but java is not being used in Chrome anymore. 

Is there a way to use Javascripts libs together with Chrome Extensions to get the public data from an eID card?
