I have placed three videos and outcomes from the INTECOL conference workshop online at http://eianzecology.blogspot.com

The general concensus was that guidelines on EcIA are essential for the profession and potentially relevant to anyone who applies ecology in practice. The aims and objectives of the process to develop guidelines are given. The approach is based on the principles of EIANZ's EP3 and members' Code of Ethics. Background to this can be found in the video presentation at http://eianzecology.blogspot.com/2002/11/what-is-ecia.html.

OPEN - Process for EcIA consultation and review - EIANZ WIKI

This will be done via the EIANZ Ecology Wiki page. Those unfamiliar with wikis, the idea is to sign up, then you can make your own changes to the document. Behind the page is a full log of changes that allows us to review information, so you have freedom to edit as much as you wish. The advantages are that it:
  • greatly minimises the need for us to process massive amounts of written feedback;
  • enables input from the entire membership in one place; and
  • is truly collaborative - those with comments to make on the document can make their own changes directly, so the document reflects overall views and not just those of the authors.
So please, if you can avoid it, try not to send us exhaustive comments but make your changes directly to the pages here: Ecological Impact Assessment Guidelines Wiki.

EcIA Community on Twitter

This is not just a bit of fun. Twitter is a serious online forum for large-scale communication on topics. I have set up a hashtag called "#ecia". In plain English, you'll need a twitter account then you can send messages up to 160 characters informing the membership about EcIA-related issues. This may be comments you have on EcIA or links to other documents. Include the term #ecia in your messages and it will collated under this heading and appear on the EIANZ Ecology page.
