Hi,

We have now summarised the highly informative presentations on biodiversity from the EIANZ Conference last month. The subject of biodiversity measurement and offset is something that the profession needs a stronger role in supporting. Creating meaningful outcomes from money invested in offsetting development impacts is vital to our ability to meet obligations to the Convention on Biological Diversity. We also heard from Professor Mark Burgman about expert evidence, looking at ways to better deal with statistical and non-statistical uncertainties. Anyone involved in risk assessment should be aware of these issues.

We will be posting more information on these subjects in due course.

If you have any articles to share yourself, feel free to express them through the website. Contact us at eco...@eianz.org. Rest assured, your articles will be read. Last month alone, nearly 1,200 people visited the EIANZ Ecology Noticeboard.

Recent posts:

In the coming weeks / months EIANZ Ecology will be embarking on three tasks:
  1. Development of Ecological Impact Assessment Guidelines. Read more here.
  2. Providing input to the EPBC Act review process via EIANZ's working group.
  3. Furthering the Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) program for ecologists. We need certified ecologists to maintain and promote this within the profession. If you are eligible, please contact CEnvP and arrange an interview. The end of year intake closes on December 21st. http://www.cenvp.org/applications.php
  4. Developing opinion-pieces by recently graduated students working in consultancy, about their experience making the transition from University to working in practice.

Regards,
