A message has been added to the EIANZ ecology website regarding recent
changes to the Animal Welfare legislation in Tasmania. This affects
any consultant who works there. Similar requirements exist in most
other states.

The EIANZ Ecology website contains an option to post "comments" under
articles. If you click on the title e.g. from the front page, there is
an invitation to comment at the bottom. This can be done anonymously
if necessary but we retain a right to moderate and remove any
inappropriate comments. Please use this facility very carefully.

Animal welfare licensing is important but in some cases, may be viewed
as counter effective, especially when the habitat is subsequently to
be demolished. There are a range of other issues that members may wish
to raise. The results of these initial comments will help gauge
overall opinion. Please let us know if this is an issue that you feel
strongly about and perhaps we could consider running a forum, or
consulting more widely with the profession on this topic.

We would like to invite anyone with an interest, to respond to the
statements at http://eianzecology.blogspot.com/2008/08/animal-ethics-approval.html.

Regards,
