EIANZ Ecology Recent Information and Biodiversity

EIANZ Ecology is currently working on a biodiversity policy which will be circulated for comment in the not too distant future. As a teaser, we have put two recent articles which touch on this important subject and the role of ecologists. They also talk about climate change and the misguided attention paid to addressing the problem without proper consideration of the symptom i.e. loss of biodiversity and lack of proper regard for ecology. This is probably one of the biggest problems facing our society today and our profession is not being properly empowered to tackle it.

This video is worth watching. Don't be put off by the title, it makes for a very useful understanding of the relationship between biodiversity and human economic growth. It was presented to a recent conference for IEEM (our UK equivalent).
