I sleceted Samplitude and Melodyne Essentials only (not interested in Birdline - which appears to be skins - or Sound Forge 11 as I alreday own it and have it installed) I presume Melodyne is installled as it appears as a plug-in.(Perhaps someone can confirm we don't get the stand-alone version)
Likewise, I'm a brand new Samplitude X3 Suite user. Spectral Layers 5 is a separate download which should be listed in the email sent to you right after purchase. There is a download link and serial numbers in the email I received.
@Will-Kenworthy Can you let me know how you get on loading Spectral Layers from Samplitude please? I can't seem to press play once the sample load into SL5 in order to hear it. Could be the way mine loads but if others have the same problem a fix might be needed from magix. Thanks!
Disclaimer: I don't have either SL or Samplitude or SF, but I suspect that when using Samplitude your audio driver is ASIO? If so, that is likely to be the reason for the "silent" apps, since the standard which Steinberg originally created dictates that ASIO can see and use only one input source at a time, in your cases, Samplitude . Thus, when you open SL or SF inside Samplitude, neither can access the audio drive since it is already allocated to the "host" program.
Can Samplitude use a different audio driver, e.g. Wave or Direct Sound? Either of these is likely to greatly increase latency within the app and so will not be suitable for overdubbing work, but should allow you to "hear" the output from SL or SF.
I'm sure you're right @emmrecs, as for the audio not being heard, but (as far as my limied knowledge of this goes) isn't it recommended to use an ASIO driver? If so, you would think it would work some way (eg by the output from SF or SL when used as a plug-in somehow being routed back via Samplitude)
Indeed it is since ASIO completely bypasses all the Windows Audio processes which are often of very poor audio quality and can add considerable latency to the signal, a real problem when attempting to overdub. But, it is inherently limited to ONE audio input source at a time.
If SL and SF were able to function as plug-ins to Samplitude then yes, at least in theory, the ASIO problem would be by-passed. However, I suspect they are actually working as "Extensions", rather than plug-ins so do not/cannot route their audio via Samplitude.
I'm not so sure! Almost ALL playback problems with the various DAWs I've used over the years have been traceable to the fact that the particular program does not or cannot access the audio driver which has been chosen somewhere in its settings. Often, even the cursor does not scroll; clearly your installation of SF11 is not so "badly" affected.
I've seen this behavior for quite awhile regarding ASIO. I always use ASIO unless I'm not connected to my RME Fireface. I just save out what I want to open in SF and then open the file within that program. Not ideal but workable. Generally for SF it will be a final mastered project anyway. I haven't had a chance to use Spectral Layers yet as I just got the package (Samplitude X3 suite with SFP 11 and SPL 5) and am still learning Samplitude.
I am pretty grateful for the deal Magix offered for all that software. I've been stuck in the whole SONAR - Gibson thing which basically left me without a DAW. Bandlab has their own situation to deal with and aren't much help at all leaving that DAW (at least for me) without support.
hi @Burton-Allan! well, the main difference is that the programs are intended for two different things. samplitude is a multi-track daw and sound forge is a wave form editor...so if you need multi-tracking, then go with samplitude, but if you're doing editing, cleaning, restoration, mastering, etc, go with sound forge. also the bundled software that comes with each program is a bit different, so you may want to review the lists of the bundled stuff to see if one has a bundled plugin you need more than the other. hope this helps!
You'll get Sound Forge Pro 16 (non-Suite) with the Samplitude Pro X8 Suite, so that might be a better value than getting the Sound Forge Pro 17 Suite. The problem is, that SF 16 has a buggy VST integration and won't get any bug fixes in the future.
Hey, thanks everyone for the feedback. SP - you commented on VST plug-ins. I already have Sound Forge Suite 16, but, I have a lot of 32-bit plug-ins I still use including the bundled Izotope Mastering Package that was in Sony Sound Forge 11. They all work in Sound Forge 16 - but - not well. Even when they display, you can't always see the manual control settings in the popup that displays. So, while it works, I sometimes, have to work in Sound Forge 11, for example, to fully use those plug-ins from Izotope. I see the upgrade to Sound Forge 17 - says it improves the use of plug-ins. Do you think this might fix this if I bump to Version 17? I'm not thrilled about paying for an upgrade to fix a buggy feature that was supposed to work in Version 16. Seems that should be fixed without paying for an upgrade. Yes, I know there are other things in the upgrade, but, if you have any first hand knowledge of how the VST's work better in version 17 or just what I can expect from this "new" and "better" VST feature in Version 17 and if you think that might solve this issue, it might make me reluctantly pay to fix the bugginess. Thanks!
History: Prior to Adobe's acquisition, 'Audition' was previously known as Cool Edit Pro and published by Syntrillium,.
I used it for a while but preferred Sound Forge and Vegas (Vegas was audio-only at the time)
I thought I'd finally got rid of all the trail pop-up boxes when I upgraded to the full Samplitude ProX 3 suite but no. It seems ALL the plugins listed like Vandal the full version have expired. I was pretty sure I followed in the install instructions and loaded everything correctly but now Samplitude is telling me I have to buy them again? Only the ones that came with a separate serial number in the activation email like Melodyne work. Very frustrating. Please does anyone know how to make the plugins for which I have already paid work again? Thanks
I suspect from the information you've given, that the now-expired plug ins actually were part of an older program which you had and have now uninstalled. Hence, they have "lost" their original host and so see your new install of Samplitude Pro X Suite 3 as in some way not compatible. You could perhaps try and reinstall the old program, even if you never use it again.
Thanks to the way the magix plugins work I have most of them multiple times but already spread across Music Maker, Samplitude and Vegas. It's a pain keeping tract of what program to use for each effect. I got the full Pro X3 suite so they would be full versions (vandal & Variverb) and all in one place like Ecox and Desser so pretty they are not suppose to run out!
I've joined the Samplitude board so might give that a go. Thanks!
CosmicOutpost, did you ever find a solution to this? I have the same issue, I have Samplitude Pro x4 suite which activated the analog modeling suite, (this is still installed on my system) I up graded to Pro x5 Suite and now when opening a song that was recorded with Pro x4 I get "PLUGIN EXPIRED" message when opening up AM-Trak that was on a couple of tracks. If I open the song in Pro x4 everything is fine. Need to figure out how I can use all of these on Pro x5 Samplitude really falls down when it comes to upgrading their software. When I upgrade I should not lose anything, in retrospect I should only gain as its and UPGRADE!!!!!!! DA!
I'm using Samplitude less and less these day as it seems to fail in the basic things I want it to do but in answer to your question, the plugin browser helped. Activated plugins should be found by the vendor Magix, the inactive ones from X4 should be listed as VST_ if I recall correctly. Look carefully at the names in plugin manager and you should see the difference.
I just got the bundle today and was yet unable to register any of the included plugins (coreFX, Melodyne, Ozone, Convology) due to a lack of keys that I wouldve normally received if i purchased the Samplitude through the website. At least I was unable to locate them anywhere on my account and i certainly didnt get an email with the keys either thus far.
@Wralth The problem you face is basically that you get the same installer as customers who bought Samplitude Pro X5 directly from Magix. So you will see the same items but don't have the needed serial numbers.
I definitely think that you won't get licenses for Melodyne, Ozone, Convology with the purchase from Humble Bundle. These are bonus items from separate companies that were included during the time Samplitude Pro X5 was sold on the Magix website two years ago. The licence deals between these companies and Magix for the inclusion in Samplitude Pro X5 ran out years ago.
For coreFX it's different because this is a product by Magix. So theoretically they could give you a serial key, but I personally think they won't do this, because this effects bundle is not cheap. But you could try and ask sales support at infos...@magix.net
I wonder where you can see that because the last time i checked the humble bundle listing of Samplitude X5, i couldnt find any concrete information about that. I only got to know about the info on the plugins as i was installing them via the samplitude setup. I then went to check on websites that still have info on the older version and indeed, the software came bundled with the plugins even back then.
Yeah... This humble bundle purchase hasn't endeared me to Magix, and I have several of their apps prior to this Samplitude bundle (I've upgraded a few... Depending on how things progress in my situation, this might not be the case again...)... Between the changes in the description - and the lack of the 'extras' in the description I'd seen - (I'd seen the same prior to their changing it), and to the fact that X5 does not play well with Roland Cloud (which I utilize greatly), this hasn't been a great experience (search and you'll find a good number of confirmations that Roland Cloud and Samplitude don't get along... An upcoming (or recent... not sure) patch is supposed to resolve this in X7. But, X5? I've asked in the other samplitude forum (community.samplitude.com), so we'll see... But, I'm not thinking they'll feel that patching X5, even with the surge in users from the humble bundle 'deal', will be work it. I mention this just because there may be (very likely WILL be) others that use Roland that will wind up basically throwing the money away with this bundle. If you don't use Roland Cloud, this might be a great, great deal (even with the removed extras). But, I'm pretty immersed in my current workflow, and it is required for me. Alas, I doubt I'll be sticking with Samplitude when a free app does not crash on me constantly/save vsti settings improperly when I use it.
