Basic principle

The mass load is proportional to the target pressure and this is achieved through optimally graduated masses. As standard, these masses are manufactured to the standard gravity (9.80665 m/s), though they can be adjusted to a specific location and calibrated according to UKAS accreditation.

KNIGHTSHIELD KS-5800 is a VOC-compliant, water-based, one-component primer for low energy surfaces. It forms an elastomeric base for silicone topcoats. KNIGHTSHIELD KS-5800 has a dark color to help speed the water evaporation and drying of the primer in direct sunlight. The coating can be applied using brush, roller, airless spray or notched squeegee following by back rolling.

KNIGHTSHIELD KS-5800 is recommended as an adhesion primer over surfaces where a topcoat direct-to-substrate adhesion test showed insufficient or questionable adhesion. The dual-range piston-cylinder system offers two measuring ranges in one housing with automatic switching from low-pressure to high-pressure pistons. This provides an extremely flexible measuring instrument covering a wide range at high accuracy, using one piston-cylinder and one set of weights. Additionally, two test points can automatically be achieved with one set of masses.

The CPS5800 piston and cylinder are manufactured from hardened steel and tungsten carbide, respectively. Together these materials have a low coefficient of expansion with respect to pressure and temperature. This results in a very good linearity for the cross-sectional area and a very high accuracy.

The piston and cylinder are protected against contact, impacts or contamination from outside, in a solid stainless steel / hardened tool steel housing. Integrated overpressure protection prevents the piston from being forced out vertically, avoiding damage to the piston-cylinder system in the event of mass removal under pressure.

The overall design of the piston-cylinder unit and the precise tolerances of both the piston and the cylinder, ensure exceptionally low friction force, which results in excellent operating characteristics with long free-rotation time and low sink rates. Thus, a high long-term stability is ensured. The recommended recalibration interval is 5 years depending on the conditions of usage.

The pressure is set via an integrated, finely adjustable, precision spindle pump. As soon as the measuring system reaches equilibrium, there is a balance of forces between pressure and the force generated by the mass applied over the area of the piston. The quality of the piston / cylinder system ensures that this pressure remains stable over several minutes so that the device under test can be calibrated or adjusted.

In addition, the CPB5800 built-in spindle pump is easy to operate even at very high pressures, and features a threaded spindle which moves within the pump body. The spindle pump handle does not move in or out of the body of the pump as the handle is turned, therefore there are no cantilever forces or changes in the overall size of the base as the pressure is changed.

The high lateral stiffness carbon composite armature suspension reduces problems associated with off-center loads and allows unsupported horizontal operation with many loads. The system is equipped with a degauss coil to ensure a low stray magnetic field for sensitive applications. The modular, air-cooled amplifier is direct coupled to the shaker to give the maximum performance at low and high frequencies. Digital meters display the system operating levels, and complete shaker and external interlocks help protect the system from accidental abuse. Oil film slip table base systems are available for larger and heavier loads or loads with high centers of gravity.
