This book of the CD-Rom Software of the same name is aimed at students studying for professional merchant navy deck officer certificates of competency. Ship Stability for Mates/Masters covers the syllabus requirements for the current Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) Examination (conducted on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)) up to STCW Chief Mate/Master Reg. II/2 (Unlimited) standard. It also covers the content of HND Ship Stability Units being currently offered by UK colleges as part of the underpinning knowledge required for certification to Officer of the Watch (OOW) and Chief Mate Levels (STCW 95). Because this text is likely to be used by students not serving on UK registered ships, or who might be attending non-UK college courses, IMO regulations requirements are also quoted where appropriate in addition to the MCA requirements.

Witherbys titles are developed using scripts developed by technical experts that are peer reviewed within work groups. Typically, they seek to improve understanding of the regulations, recommendations and guidelines issued by Industry.
Simpson's rules are a set of rules used in ship stability and naval architecture, to calculate the areas and volumes of irregular figures.[1] This is an application of Simpson's rule for finding the values of an integral, here interpreted as the area under a curve.
Simpson's rules are used to calculate the volume of lifeboats,[6] and by surveyors to calculate the volume of sludge in a ship's oil tanks. For instance, in the latter, Simpson's 3rd rule is used to find the volume between two co-ordinates. To calculate the entire area / volume, Simpson's first rule is used.[7]
NMMA Boat & Yacht Certification helps manufacturers ensure their boats are built to applicable standards set by the American Boats & Yacht Council (ABYC), and to promote their compliance to the public. Benefits:
Jesse Rhodes is a young and passionate boat designer, graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from NCSU, known for their engineering department. He then attended and graduated from the Landing School of Boat Building and Design in ME. He's been involved with several big boat builders with an eye for the "Carolina" style sportfish look. This typically means an agressive bow entry, lots of boat flare, and a relatively low transom deadrise angle. He was enlisted to come up with a similar running surface but on a smaller scale. Jesse was involved in designing almost all of the hulls Sportsman offers today. Sportsman Boats are well known for their smooth, dry ride and fuel efficiency, this is in part due to Jesse's applications.
Sportsman engineered a unique stringer system that creates both structure and flotation. Each model has a unique stringer that matches the hull shape, the stringer is a near box-girder design. It is chemically bonded to the hull with the use of Methacrylate, one of the most potent adhesives available for industrial use, this bond creates a weld that will last indefinitely. Once bonded, the box girder area is filled with their foam. It's a 2-process foam that expands as it cures, filling the airspace within the stringer. As the foam's expansion is restricted, the density creates added structural qualities and floatation.
Tommy Hancock and Dale Martin are back in the boat building business with Sportsman Boats. These two legendary boat builders combined forces to create Sportsman Boats which manufactures an intelligently designed series of center console and bay boats. Tommy Hancock was one of the original founders of Sea Pro Boats, Inc. which also made Sea Boss and Palmetto boats. Dale Martin was co-founder of Key West Boats, Inc. Hancock sold his business to the Fortune 500 company, Brunswick Boat Group in 2005 and Martin sold his interest in Key West Boats in 2003, but both have kept a close eye on the marine industry. Hancock said, "We've watched what was happening in the industry and we both saw a need in the market place that we believed we could fill."

Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will reduce the occurrence of extreme events and the likelihood of abrupt changes. Abrupt changes can be irreversible on human time scales and, as tipping points, bring natural systems to novel conditions. To reduce risks that emerge from these impacts of climate change, communities can protect themselves or accommodate to the new environment. In the last resort, they may retreat from exposed areas. Governance that builds on diverse expertise and considers a variety of actions is best equipped to manage remaining risks.
Climate change is projected to influence extreme events and to potentially cause abrupt changes in the ocean and the cryosphere. Both these phenomena can add to the other, slow-onset impacts of climate change, such as a global warming or sea level rise (SLR). In addition, abrupt changes can be tipping points, bringing the ocean, cryosphere, as well as their ecosystems, or the whole climate system, to new conditions instead or going back to the ones prevailing before the abrupt change.
