Subj: Re: [USQuagmire] ElShafey: No to Religous DictatorshipBriefly,The elections that brought Mursi to power was neither free nor fair. The courts are now looking into the evidence of widespread fraud to bring Mursi to the book. Mursi come to power on a platform of religion and Islamic constitution. When Carter however came to power religion was not part of his election platform; consequantly he did not surround himself with all of those who share his religious belief. In fact most of them were Jewish; most prominently was his defence secretary Harold Brown, his Treasury Secretary Blumenthal, his Transport Secretary Goldsmith and his commerce Secretary Klutznick; and many more in senior positions in his administration. It was not the religious belief they represent, rather it was their political weight.President Carter did not change the constitution of the Unite States to serve his Christian beliefs or a Christian party he belongs to. Mursi did; he changed the composition of the political institutions in Egypt to serve an Islamist Agenda Only. Carter would not and could not change the constitution to give himself unlimited constitutional powers.; Mursi did. That was his downfall and that what made him an illegal President that needs to be thrown out. He lost his mandate and if there was a way of impeaching him he should have been impeached, but that wasn't possible since he packed his Parliament with his Brothers ( the brotherhood ).The votes Mursi held in the election, even if we presume the elections were fair, did not reflect well informed voters. Those voters were suppressed under dictatorship since Nasser's revelution which you may call it a military coup. And when people are suppressed and they lost hope they tend to hang their hopes on a religious believe on the power of Allah . Mursi had represented that religious hope which in fact does not relate or connect with the reality of politics and the wider global political and economic and technological environment.Egypt needs a cultural change that interpret islam not as Shikh Kardawy does in Aljazeera Arabic/English when raping the women of your enemy is admissible in Islam as it is admissible to marry to the underage. What a backward and inhumane interpretation to Islam. When the Mullahs in Iran issued the Fatwa for the killing of Salman Rushdy because he has different views. I, and million others round the word were stunned and appalled.I can't believe when those Muslim extremists ( Ekhwan and Alqaeda) blow up other Muslims who happen to hold different political views, then shout Allah Akbar. This is total barbarism. Look what the bearded men are doing now in Syria in the name of Allah.; and In Afghanistan and in Iraq. The virus had spread to the Muslim parts of Africa to add to their misery , Al Shabab and Harkat Aklmujahideen are bringing these countries to doomed future.I have been calling for long time to ban the brotherhood from any participation in Egypt political institutions and to put their leadership on trial before military courts. That is what they deserve if we are going to protect Egypt from descending to civil war and the dark ages of Salafists. We need a new interpretation for Islam that takes account of the tremendous changes that are happening in the world with the mind blowing advances of the digital communication. What Egypt need is leadership to think outside the Muslim Brotherhood box and to apply a deep cultural change to undo what the Brotherhood has done during decades of secretive and wicked work to brainwash the Egyptian society.I don't mind a military dictatorship if it was the only solution to undo the pathetic damage Mursi has done. He stole the people's revolution.Kelly ElshafeyFrom: Albagdadi <ArabJ...@aol.com>

Subj: RE: [USQuagmire] ElShafey: No to Religous DictatorshipWow! What an excellent example of the shallowness of modern Arab thinking. Why is Egypt sunk in backwardness? Because it lacks free elections, free speech, and freedom of assembly? No, because when given a free election they elect religious people to office. The West would NEVER do such a thing!
I guess the author never heard of Jimmy Carter. Like Mursi, he was a religious enthusiast who did not want to impose his religion forcibly on others. Like Mursi, he was a weak president. Like Mursi, he was not allowed to serve a second term. But UNLIKE Mursi, he was taken out of office by a free and fair election, allowed to finish his first term. THAT dear friends is the difference between America and Egy pt. Americans prefer to let a weak Evangelical president finish his term that have the military remove him. Some Egyptians, like the author of the piece below just don't get it and continue their successful albeit unwitting struggle to keep Egypt in darkness.

The changes that happened to the constitution which Sheikh Mursi introduced required a coup to change it. That it is what was required. We do not want a sharia low or a constitution build on sharia. We don't want half of the society(women) behind hijab and burka. The time for this has gone long ago. We don't want our youth to be captives to religion; studying in Madrasa without an open mind to the outside world. Democracy is where man and woman are free to think without limitation of a dogma.
You and I and millions of Muslims, Arab a nd none Arab prefer to set our homes in the west Why is that? Because real democracy is freedom of the mind from all what limits its capacity to think.
Where do we find a reference in any area of science and technology or even your field of Engineering ? Have you found a reference in Arabic ? And if there is one is Arabic it must have sourced all information from western academic sources. There is no original thinking. We haven't got academics who create or invent. The west has gone beyond the moon and where are we? The Muslim and Arab oil nations still live in the dark ages , they can't even explore their own God given fortune of oil. The western companies come to do the job and take the riches of our land back home to create wealth and prosperity. That is democracy in play.
Our young people can not live behind Nikab and Burka, their brains is sucked by religion and they will live ignorants and die as they lived. Give me one example of innovation which took the world by the storm, in Science, Technology, Medicine, Engineering ( your area of profession) even in humanities I can't think of a theorist from our part of the muslim world. Where are the researches Muslim countries produced?
They are plenty who live and flourish in the west and who lead in their own fields. They excel because they live in a different culture that respect their brain power regardless of their skin coulour or religious beliefs.
You may tell me Pakistan has got a nuclear bomb; but look how they live in Pakistan although it is theoretically a democratic system of government. &n bsp;Advance in science and technology is useless if it has no social function.Look at the killings and bombings and assassinations that happens every day allover the muslim and Arab world. The funny thing is when a bearded young man kills or bomb another un-bearded muslim, the former shouts Allah Akbar! How pathetic!
I prefer secular dictatorship million times more than religious dictatorship. That is why we need the only force that can uproot the Mursi religious dictatorship to pave the way at some stage for a secular government.
