Hi Laura,

Welcome to the neighborhood! I no longer live near Egleston Square, or Boston for that matter. But the Egleston Community Orchard is still near and dear to my heart. Many wonderful memories there.

I'm connecting you with my friends, Hannah and Orion. They still live in the neighborhood and can tell you more about how to plug in. You can also check out the Facebook page for the orchard here.

Good luck settling in.

HI Laura,
This has been a strange year for the community orchard - lots of neighbors have been helping out individually, planting trees, watering trees, mowing the grass, fixing playhouses, weeding the front fence, pruning the grape vine, weeding the flower beds - and yet we don't have collective workdays or BBQs or other events to all meet and celebrate.

Also, the lack of rain has made it look a little shabbier than it typically would be this time of year.

I know that Carolyn Lewenberg is organize parents to take care of the space as they will be hosting a "farm school" on Mon/Thurs (as part of a homeschool pod) and that Isis and the Stonybrook Preschool also organize parent's as they use the space for their outdoor activities. I am copying both of them here so you can be in touch directly.

We really want to convene a new "Stewardship Team" of neighborhood volunteers to plan events and coordinate use of the community orchard. Egleston Community Orchard is part of the Boston Food Forest Coalition, a nonprofit land trust with over 10 sites across Boston neighborhoods - each site is maintained and programmed by local neighborhood volunteer stewards. ECO used to have a very active team, but many of the original folks no longer live in Boston!

Welcome to the neighborhood - I hope we meet in person soon,
Orion

Wishing well these efforts to do community in new and unexpected ways. I am forever grateful for all those continuing to support this treasured space and miss seeing Hannah, Orion their babies and so many others in the garden on the weekends. Here in Nebraska we working on virtual school and using our backyard garden as a learning space.
Light to your work and peace to your feet.
Love all
Veronica (and Grant and the babies)
