TheAmerican boy band New Kids on the Block has released eight studio albums, seven compilation albums, one EP, thirty-two singles, and five video albums. As of 2005, they had sold more than 17.5 million albums in the United States alone[1] and to date, over 80 million records worldwide.[2]
The New Kids on the Block released their debut single, "Be My Girl", in 1986. It peaked at number 90 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.[3] Their first album was released the same year, and although not a big success at the time, it managed to sell three million copies in the United States after almost four years, being certified three times platinum by the RIAA.[4][5] In 1988, they released their second and most successful album to date, Hangin' Tough, which peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and sold more than eight million copies in the United States alone.[4] After a Christmas album, they released the song "Step by Step", from the album of the same name; it remains the band's biggest-selling single to date.[6] New Kids on the Block have since released three more studio albums and eight compilations.
Creating this episode has been an amazing experience, one that has moved me, delighted me, and brought me so much joy. It was an absolute honor to speak to Danny, he is kind, generous, and deeply devoted to the NKOTB (New Kids on The Block) fan base. He loves his mother deeply, and while she is gone, she continues to inspire Danny.
How tragic to hear of yet another person affected by breast cancer ? I applaud Danny Wood for using his influence in the music industry to open up and connect with others about the struggles of dealing with this horrible disease, and donating the profits to a good cause.
Ahh! I love NKOTB! I had no idea that Danny had come out with so many solo albums! I remember hearing about his mom passing away from breast cancer. It is such a sad thing, so many are affected by it.

0:01:00 I have completed slightly over one listen of the album, and 10 is tolerable background music. The only trouble that arises is when NKOTB veers out of the adult pop-rock lane and tries to sound like a modern pop group. Especially the whisper rapping; that was the worst.
New Kids On The Block announce the release of their new album 10, their sixth studio album and the first since The Block which was released on September 2, 2008 and debuted at number 1 pop album on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and peaked at number 16 in the UK.
While the other four members spent their free time in the studio and put a lot of effort into the future of the band, Jamie Kelley increasingly neglected his commitment to the group, with the consequence being that he got dismissed later on. Starr was now searching for a talent with a voice similar to Michael Jackson for singing high solos. That was when the 12-year-old Joey McIntyre made his way to the group. He was previously singing and acting in local theatres.
New Kids on the Block became one of the most popular acts in the United States and at this time the band was taking the world step by step. They had to triple their security team for the Stadium Tour, which led them through the United States and Europe in the spring of 1990.
On February 17, 1992 New Kids on the Block caused a stampede during a concert in front of 16,000 people at the Olympic Park in Seoul, South Korea. Hundreds of fans tried to get on stage and were trampled to the ground. The band was watching the incident from the stage, cancelled the show after the third song, and was escorted back to the hotel. About fifty injured people had to be taken to hospitals. At the hotel, the group was told that they are not allowed to leave the country until the concert has been finished as per agreement. South Korean armed forces took control over all passages and rows of the Olympic Park and the concert continued under military protection. The next day, the members got to know that a 17-year old fan passed away due to serious injuries.
NKOTB went on a tour to support the album. Unlike when they were selling out arenas in the glory days of their success, they only got to play smaller venues on this tour, such as clubs and theaters. While the tour was going on, Jonathan Knight, who was increasingly suffering from anxiety and panic attacks at this time, decided to leave the group.
As the Reunion Tour was completely wrapped up, the group hosted another special event for their fans, a concert cruise, which began on May 15th, 2009 in Miami, Florida. The cruise went on for 4 days, and it took the New Kids on the Block and their fans on a vacation to the Bahamas. On the last day of this cruise, group member Jordan Knight immediately announced another one for 2010 via the social media site Twitter.
The tour went down in 2011 and led them through the United States and Canada, visiting 48 cities in total. Because of the fact that the tour was successful in their home country and a huge demand overseas, they decided to do a European tour in spring of 2012. NKOTBSB visited the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They had also planned to do a tour stop in France but due to technical limitations, this date never happened.
A couple of days later the group travelled to Canada to promote their new album and the upcoming tour. They took over the Toronto based radio station CHUM FM for an hour to answer fan questions and songs of their new album had been played during the show. The same day they also did an autograph signing and a Q&A session at the Pickering Town Centre.
After a three months break, the New Kids on the Block announced their 6th annual cruise, which sets sail on June 5th, 2014. The cruise ship, the Carnival Splendor this time, will embark from the Port of New York City and takes the band & their fans to the new destination of Bermuda. The Block Nation members and prior cruisers were able to book their cabins on October 9th. The general on-sale was set for October 10th at 10:00 am ET. The cruise was sold-out within an hour.
Before Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC ruled the pop roost in the '90s, New Kids On The Block were busy building the boy band template that everyone later followed for international chart success and incredibly ardent fan followings. And it's a legacy they're continuing to celebrate nearly four decades later.
On May 17, NKOTB dropped Still Kids, the group's first new album in 11 years and eighth overall. Standouts such as "Magic," "Runaway," and the album's lead single "Kids" are every bit as light, joyful and catchy as early hits like "Step By Step" and "Hangin' Tough." But they sound more mature than they did as teenagers; their harmonies are stronger and sweeter, while the beats and production sounds more sophisticated and contemporary. Fellow '80s/'90s stars DJ Jazzy Jeff and Taylor Dayne also guest star on the album to help them lean into the nostalgia while still staying current. (Jazzy Jeff will also join them on the Magic Summer Tour, which will make stops around North America from June 14 through Aug. 25 and further continue the throwbacks with Paula Abdul as the third tourmate.)
Through the grace of God, there was a lot going on for the people that wanted it. And these community people that just did it out of the goodness of their hearts and would set up a space for kids to come and number one, stay out of trouble, and number two, give it a shot and have a place to dance and sing and dream.
We would have these Hollywood Talent Nights that [group creator] Maurice [Starr] would put on, and then there were other talent nights. I don't know how often they were, but even if there were three or four a year, maybe even less, it was something to work towards. And we would rehearse, if we weren't rehearsing at Jordan and John's [Knight's] house, in their basement, we would rehearse at the Lee School.
In the basement of the Lee School, in the backstage, you would walk down the stairs and we'd perform in these little rooms. It was like dressing rooms. They had mirrors; it wasn't big mirrors, but they had mirrors for the waist up and that was a big deal. So we would perform there, and rehearse there, and it was exciting. We had a place to take chances and be inspired and have a ton of fun as well.
