Carousel Capital was founded in 1996. The current management team took control of the firm in 2006, coinciding with the launch of Fund III. Funds I & II were led by others not currently involved in management of the firm and contained certain investment strategies that have since been discontinued (i.e. growth, venture/non-control investments). Funds III and all subsequent funds raised by Carousel Capital are representative of the firm's current thesis and core competencies of private equity investing in the Southeastern United States. The statistics presented herein are based on data beginning in 2006, unless otherwise noted.
Meghan B. is not exaggerating here. The poles on my carousel are very hot. I do not know why that is the case. I think it might have something to do with the poles rubbing up against some of the gears down underneath, but I am not sure. I have tried to cool them off by spraying them down with water, but that has not worked. For a while, I tried using a chemical coolant on the poles, but it was giving people rashes, so I went back to water. Obviously, the high temperature of the poles and general wetness of the carousel on a whole are legitimate concerns, and I am doing my best to address them.
Okay, so ideally, the carousel would move around and around instead of up and down. I understand that people expect a carousel to move a certain way, and it is unfortunate that mine does a different and worse thing. But I am doing the best I can. I am not an engineer. I do not have the technical know-how to make it rotate. This is something I have made peace with.
Honestly, I thought people would like to have a carousel on the freeway. It seemed like a good way to reach a lot of folks, and I figured most people would think it was a fun little surprise to break up the monotony of their commute. I did not anticipate how many accidents it would cause, nor how much traffic blocking three lanes of the 405 freeway would generate. For these things, I apologize. But I promise you, my intentions here were good. Bottom line: I now understand that the freeway is a bad place for a carousel.

But it could have also left some of that sum exactly where it was, on the proviso that Credit Suisse would stumble rather than fall, while shuffling the rest around the private-banking pack: a few million here to Deutsche or JPMorgan, a few million there to DBS or HSBC.

In late 1980, the mayor of New Haven appointed a group of citizens to investigate ways to restore the carousel with private funding. These dedicated volunteers joined together to reclaim this piece of New England heritage. In 1983 the carousel and its storied pavilion were placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The City of New Haven, which purchased the carousel in 1927, allocated funds to rehabilitate the neglected building. An "Adopt-A-Horse" program was developed to help pay for restoration of the endowment was established at the Community foundation for Greater New Haven to build al Reserve for the future. After hours of scraping, cleaning, painting, fundraising and restoration, the carousel twirled once again. Yet there is much to be done.
Keeping the carousel beautiful and in working order is a continuing task. The motor that sends the carousel spinning requires regular refurbishing, as does the organ that accompanies riders on their flights of fancy. Horses need new tails, manes, and jewels. Routine wear and tear caused by the damp bathing suits of seaside riders make frequent paint touch-ups necessary. Maintenance and restoration must be ongoing if the carousel is to remain beautiful and vibrant.
