You have a servo which is reversed in its internal wiring. (I have one two,
but then I don't use the stock servo.) You should switch the values you use
for up and down: use a smaller value for up and a larger value for down.
(I've occassionally wondered if we should put in an option in the Options
tab to "reverse" the servo values by subtracting the values from 100%)

What you don't want to do is reverse the servo wiring: that can damage
the servo, maybe even the board. And it won't reverse the servo.

If changing the values you use for up and down doesn't work -- but I'm
confident that it will -- then do post back.

Enjoy your bot!

Dan,
Thank you for this advise, I have already done this and the arm is up when it should be down in the plot and down when it should be up.

Okay, let's step back a minute (which is another way of saying I'm not too sure if
I'm understanding what you're saying).

If you

1. Select the "Setup" tab of the Eggbot Control,
2. Put in an "up" value which is larger than the "down" value,
3. Click the "Apply" button so that the settings are saved,
4. Go to the "Plot" tab, and then
5. Plot something by pressing the "Apply" button, then
6. The pen goes down when it should go up and up when it should go down.

But ALSO, if you

1. Select the "Setup" tab of the Eggbot Control,
2. Put in an "up" value which is smaller than the "down" value,
3. Click the "Apply" button so that the settings are saved,
4. Go to the "Plot" tab, and then
5. Plot something by pressing the "Apply" button, then
6. Again the pen goes down when it should go up and up when it should go down?

If that's the case then

A. It's odd, and
B. are you hearing any straining noises from the servo while it tries to hold either the up
or down position? I'm wondering if one of the up or down values is actually trying to
drive the servo beyond its range of travel and thus is ineffective.

Note that it's important to do the Step 3 in the above; otherwise, the up and down values
are not being changed.

Dan,
I have gone to the eggbot extension, set up - put the setting for the up movement with the setting that I want for the down motion and the setting for down with the setting that I want for the up motion. The up operates the downward motion and the down operates the up motion. Then when I plot HELLO WORLD from the evilmadscience download, the pen arm is up when it is supposed to be on the egg and down when it is supposed to be in the up position. I had already done all of this before asking for help. This just doesn't work on my egg-bot.

Hi Susan,
Please actually try the test that Dan has suggested, or follow the procedure that I sent you separately by e-mail.

Windell,
I followed the steps that you sent me and got the pen arm working correctly up and down correctly. I went to plot after I got the pen moving up in the up position setting and down in the down position setting. I then went to the plot in the eggbot control and plotted the HELLO WORLD and the HELLO printed with the HE up and the LLO WORLD was upside down (see attached pictures). I went over the one that has everything except the H doubled the second time since the H had not printed due to the ink point drying out while I was getting the settings adjusted.

The HE is oriented the same way as the LLO WORLD. (After all, the "HE"
are symmetrical about a horizontal line.)

The issue is that you need to invert the egg motor axis (or swap the
stepper motor wiring). You do that from the Options tab of the
Eggbot Control. Just check (or uncheck) the "Reverse motion of Motor 2 (egg)"
box, and then click the "Apply" button. You may also need to do the
same for the pen motor.
