Startup Sauna,  the leading startup accelerator in Northern Europe, and the renowned Kenyan tech innovation centre iHub Nairobi, are co-hosting two days of startup coaching and tech hub / university networking on 8th and 9th May 2014.

In addition to the sharing of knowledge and experience, this event will give a practical opportunity for some Kenyan startups to rehearse and refine their pitches for East Africa’s premier mobile startups pitching competition PIVOTEast.

Startup Sauna is a volunteer-driven program that operates mainly in Northern and Eastern Europe and Russia; however, it also works to build up connections and relationships all over the world.

After having conducted Startup Sauna Local Event Days in Europe, America and Asia, this is the first time a delegation of coaches – including Peter Vesterbacka of Angry Birds fame – is visiting Africa.

Startups all over the world share similar challenges and concerns, but local realities also provide unique opportunities to leapfrog conventional thinking and solve global challenges; for example, in Kenya the lack of conventional banking infrastructure led to it becoming a world leader in mobile payments. Innovation comes from the fusion of ideas and the event will encourage the mixing of Nordic and African outlooks.

During the event there will be a special stream to highlight the importance of social impact entrepreneurship and agri startups.

The reward for taking part is primarily the feedback and advice from the highly experienced Finnish and Kenyan coaches; however, the winning startup representatives will also be invited to join the coaches on a safari drive and picnic lunch in the Nairobi National Park on Saturday 10 May.

Startup Sauna will stay in contact with the winning team over the next six months and, if deemed ready, they may be invited to attend the Startup Sauna autumn program in Finland.

So we warmly invite Kenyan startups to enter into the Sauna Safari pitching competition.
