Ellen,
The event is set up so that if you are a member of the chapter, it is free.
Students and young professionals can join the chapter for a discounted rate ($25) through www.usgbc.org.
Normally they don't charge students for the monthly programs.
However, because they are doing a lot of nice food and drinks this time, they are asking people who aren't chapter members to pay $20.
So. . . to me. . it makes sense to just sign up to be a member of the chapter for the extra 5 bucks, because there will be other discounts throughout the year.
I put instructions on how to register as a student/EGB member of the chapter at the bottom of the most recent post on the google group site here:
http://groups.google.com/group/egbutah/browse_thread/thread/250565d5ac5a533a
Being a member of the chapter allows you to get discounts on stuff they do.
I see the EGB group itself, eventually consisting of many people that may or may not be members of the chapter.
I hope to include as many people as possible.
Once we figure out what we want to do, we'll have to see if we can get a budget from the chapter to work with.
Any additional funds we need, however, we'll have to cover another way.
Hopefully most of the stuff we'll do won't cost anything other than a time commitment.
However, some EGB groups like New York, have incredibly huge productions with big budgets, sponsors etc.
So there's a pretty wide range of what we could do.
But for now, I don't plan on charging anyone who wants to participate in the EGB-based events.
So it is just chapter based events that I'll have to be better about warning the EGB about any registration fees.
Thanks
David Henderson
