October 31, 2012
Dear Emerging Futures Youth Network Ambassadors,
Tonight I’m here at Gallery 203 in Montreal thinking of all of you as we sing to “Lean on Me”
“I won’t cry, I won’t shed a tear, just as long as you stand by me…””
Oh, oh, oh, my
darlings, stand by me.””
I have so much to be thankful for and I want each of you to know how much you have moved me, how much I have learned, and grown together as a peace ambassador.
Our March – October 2012 ambassador program is coming to an end. Wow, what a learning experience this has been. And, a fantastic opportunity to meet each of you in some small and greater ways.
We each played a unique role from 19 different countries, and while many goals are still ahead of us we were able to work together to deliver on:
· Rio+20
· Preliminary Book of Greatness-Empowerment Central business plan development
· “Standing Together for Peace” Sept 21st multcast on International Peace Day
Since we did not use our Peace Jam curriculum training funds, Emerging Futures Youth Network has decided to grant the following leadership awards to various ambassadors for different good works contributed throughout the term.
To claim your award please send me a donation link with contact information for the NGO/non-profit organization of your choice you'd like your award to go to in your name. If more than one ambassador is named you must work together to submit a selected organization. Names and contact information must be received to me by return email by November 8, 2012. I’ll send you the org names next week along with a certificate of program completion.

Emerging Futures Youth Network ambassador program evaluation Questions:
1. What was the most important thing that you have learned throughout your engagement with this programme?
2. If you were to change the structure, engagement, content (or any other item you can think of) of the programme what would you change and how?
3. What was the thing you liked best in the programme and what is the thing you liked least and why?
And, for those of you wishing to stay and evolve the program please let me know your interest. I see the following as some of our ongoing work and would like alumni’s to assist in new program development in support of:
· Participation in post 2015 MDG collaboration tools, services, resources
· Book of Greatness (pages, portals, and invitations to the network as movement)
· Peace Wheel Network (youth ambassador program) through the production of a fundraising & celebration associated with community solutions using earth, water, air, fire, and mind in support of the world we want today.
Upcoming event: June 8, 2013: Oceania Day
Volunteers needed:
· Leader(s) to guide ambassador program. To work with Julie to set up invitation and activities for next round of ambassador recruitment and deliverables via email.
· EFYN Citizen Journal coordinator to work on the documentation of youth work from ambassador peace regions for and with an international magazine such as National Geographic. To work with local ambassadors, their country government and a local writer fluent in youth culture language and English to document stories about youth leaders, their family, culture, and work for use in citizen journalism publication.
· Ambassadors to work on Peace Wheel Network development and Oceania Day local-regional activities for World Ocean Day, June 8th.
With my most sincere appreciations,
Your friend,

2. If you were to change the structure, engagement, content (or any other item you can think of) of the programme what would you change and how?
"If I were to change the structure, I would start with a solid curriculum for peace education with regular assignments and scheduled on-line interactions on those assignments. Some of those assignments should be done in pair or group to allow participants to know each other better. I also think that project proposal should be more competitive, like only 3 best projects are selected for implementation and those projects receive funds for that. If there is no funding for projects, then there is no point in drafting them. Maybe part of the training is on-line fundraising for the selected projects. Maybe the course should be divided into two parts: It starts with the peace education curriculum and then moves to the project proposal. Those who are not successful with the project proposal would lat least network and receive the training. "
3. What was the thing you liked best in the programme and what is the thing you liked least and why?
I want to formally thank the founder(Julie) of/for this great initiative. I also appreciate my co-ambassadors,supporters and endorsers on this platform. It gives me so much joy that the idea of one woman(Julie) resident in the United States can transcend continental barriers to nations and
affect people who don't even have a direct connection with her. For me,as much as I know so many expectations were cut short and so many hurdles were encountered, overall I still want to say I am glad I came on board. I have met some of the brightest young minds all around the world, and this platform made that possible. My answers to the questions follow directly(in blue): |
1. What was the most important thing that you have learned throughout your engagement with this programme? |
I learnt that distance is not neccessarily a barrier to anything(a vision) if a group of committed people with innovative minds will rise up to achieve an objective "without getting deterred" |
2. If you were to change the structure, engagement, content (or any other item you can think of) of the programme what would you change and how? |
I believe personally that the nothing was wrong with the contents or structure of the programme.I believe also that the framework was well defined. But I think the major issue I would suggest changes is how the people involved are managed. One of my favourite quotes by a menor of mine John Maxwell says "Everything rises and falls on Leadership".I believe the greatest any organization has is its people and only when effectively managed can they optimally produce the desired outcome. |
3. What was the thing you liked best in the programme and what is the thing you liked least and why? |
What I like best about the programme was the idea behind the "Book of Greatness" What I liked the least was that discussions,follow-up,and evaluations were not synchronised. Too many new ideas kept coming up to the detriment of the major ideas the initiative was founded on.I think that happened because there was not enough deliberate effort made by the leadership to maintain the diversity and in flux of ideas by members. This is also a major reason why some ambassadors got lost in the midst of the informations just few weeks to the commencement.
Without mincing words,I have been greatly enriched with this programme. At some points,I learnt what to do/say,at some other points,I learnt what not to do and say. I am proud nevertheless to be associated with this platform and I want to state that it will be a delight to still help to achieve set objectives whenever I am opportune to do so when called upon. Thanks all.I wish you all success in your endeavors as we all keep taking our little but worthy steps in making our world a better place.
