Celebration of United Nations Day, October 24th
Oct 15, 2012: Toronto: October 24th is United Nations Day. This date marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatory Member States, the United Nations officially came into being. In honour of this event, the United Nations Association in Canada, Toronto Region Branch (UNACTO) will be hosting a celebration of this Day on October the 24th, 2012.
Our special keynote speaker, Mr. Yasin Samatar, Programme Officer with the Secretariat for the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB) will join us from New York to discuss careers and opportunities with the UN. We will have displays of our entries from the UN Birthday TO Contest for Youth and Education, announcing the winners in a special awards ceremony : we will also launch from Toronto, our contest for Youth Global MDG UN @UNACTO Awards to be presented in mid February 2013. We especially thank a special guest appearance by Sean Mauricette, aka Subliminal,motivational rapper who will highlight the evening: Subliminal makes it his business to know and inspire youth.
We also have some special surprise messages via video coming our way from our partners who are abroad, and we proudly welcome our strategic alliance partners, including our honoured guest jurists Ntiokam Divine and Ravi Karkara.
