Help! Fundamentals or Essentials?

To all my classmates with training backgrounds...would you recommend Essentials of Firefighting or Fundamentals of Firefighting (and why)?

I am looking for feedback on the whole program for each.

Darrell, in my experience I have only worked with and taught out of the Essentials of Firefighting resources. I would have to spend some time and look through the Fundamentals of Firefighting. When I return for the NFA, I can look into this, but I am not sure if that woudl be an adequate time.

Darrell,

Before being promoted I spent 8 years as a Training Captain. We have
always used essentials. We evaluated Delmar and found (5 years ago)
serious issues with quality control in their powerpoints and student
manuals. However, I did a test case with some of my newer FF and they
said that fundamentals were easier for them to understand.

I know that cost wise fundamentals was cheaper, but essentials had a lot
more supporting programs such as powerpoints, student workbooks etc.

They may have solved it now, but in the beginning they (fundamentals)
did not have a good test bank for practice tests. Again, they may have
solved that now.

Anyways, hope that helps. Let me know if you need more. I can certainly
forward you on to our current training guys and they may have more
timely feedback.

I am with Scott on this one, I have only used the Essentials book. It has been the staple for fire training in Indiana for as long as I have been around. I have referenced others, but most students seem to be able to use the materials, and they are easy to read. Just my two cents worth...

We are currently going to through a large training consolidation and with a bunch of research done, it was decided to stick with essentials.

I know they have used the metric system in the past as well which should help you :)
