Scott,

Once you get home today, post more about this direction of EFO that these officials spoke about.  I would love to hear about behaviors and the EFO program being on track.

Now for my 2 cents:

Maybe they should look at their instructors, curriculum, and the actual application process.  After our class, I was not impressed by any of the above.  One of our instructors was good but the curriculum was geared to sell people on Risk reduction and its importance (here's a clue, we are EFO-we get it, now move on and let's get to the meat and details of community risk reduction and real world programs and fact based information that we can use).  One of our instructors was so ready to drive home everyday, he practically beat us out of the building.

This class could have been taught in 3 days as it stands.  Moreover, how about the applicants.  The best discussion we had in our class was when myself, Jodie, Neal, and Matt took on the table 2 dipshits regarding tattoos.  In that group, you had a 65 year old planning battalion chief, and a couple of other morons that I would not let lead a boy scout troop let alone a fire department.  (maybe they should think about interviewing their applicants to the program so they can actually see these future leaders of the fire service.  These guys had the old school mentality that none of us like and it does not take a rocket scientist to see they are not "leaders in the fire service, let alone their organization-hell their dogs probably don't even listen to them.)

There is so much emphasis put on the ARP throughout the program yet in our class it was not discussed one time.  Are these papers even relevent outside of the EFO world?  maybe they should look at that and maybe projects that have real world application.

As far as conduct, make the class a challenge and engage us and we will have less time for what is deemed inappropraite behavior.  Yes, we did go drink, alot.  Hell even the intern, Chesty Larouex, was showing up with hickies.  What happens in the evening and the middle weekend is no one's business at the academy.  If they don't like it, take the pub off campus and lock everyone in for 2 weeks, I am sure that will help particiaption and morale. The after hours time has always been the best part of the NFA and will always be.

My opinion the program is becoming dated with an academic standpoint that is not necessarily up to date.  If it not the curriculum, it is definetly the portrayal of the "retired" or out of the fire service instructors that they are getting on low bid.  Sorry for the rant, frustration was full with the program when I left 2 weeks ago but knowing crap like this is flowing when there is amuch larger picture makes me consider the program itself.  A real reason people are in the program is to get the EFO initials for resume' purposes for a better life.  For me, its 2.0 and go from now on.

Again sorry for the rant but other than the A states and Matt, the last class was a true waste of 2 weeks for me.  It was funny that noone said anything about conduct when we were there.  Maybe next year we implement the 5:30 a,m. walking group, the ARP worship group, and luch time mass.

Someone from this class please post some details so I can fuel my fire just a hair more.

The July class had a very different experience, and to your point, the difference was probably due to the instructor.  One in particular, Michael Chiaramonte.   I agree that the NFA student selection process should involve more than a "what I want to be when I grow up" essay.  And I admit that some of us, who are a bit "long in tooth" may have slipped in under the wire. While I would like to see more younger fire officers enrolled in the program, as they are the future of the fire service, some of us who have been around and who plan on being around for a while longer do have some value to add to the conversation.

The biggest problem I see with the program is a disconnect between the institution and the student.  One example is that I can't seem to get phone calls returned.  Thoughts?

Ok to one and all:

#1 Confession

We (the group) have been pulling your chain!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, a comment was made about the last class, however it really was not derogatory.
Yes we talked to 2 Academy administrators.   Only as they unlocked our door one day....and it was about the door being locked!
Yes, our president was pulled out of class.  I think he was talking to other classes about a presentation.
Here is another one:  We could have wrote.......they are shutting off our internet.  Which they are (cause they screwed up and have already fixed it)  but not because of any problems.
We really have just simply been trying to play with you guys.

#3   Explanation
Well I think the confession speaks for it's self.  Again, this was a fun way to "be part of the group" even when we are all going at different times.  As to what may or may not have occurred during your class,    we really have not heard anything.   And Jake I agree,  after hours and weekends are your own deal....not the academies.

But again, it was an easy bait to throw out there.

#4.   Validation

Jake, Art,

Some of the things you have pointed out are very valid points and we have experienced some of the same issues in our first week. We also have some concerns.

I hope that the issues that are being brought out and some that I am sure will be brought forward out of our class can be addressed via the eval process.

Once again:     Jodie......don't call anyone and ask about "issues"......Jake.......still love ya man.  And to the rest of you, always remember no matter what happens they can't take away who you are.

Please be safe

Scott

OK, yes I was easy to stir due to my frustration from last class.  You guys are clever.  Art, my apologies toward the old remark and I agree with the different perspective but this particular individual is a douche and young or old should not be in the program, my opinion and pretty much concensus of the A states.

It is also easy to bait when there were some comments made in our class regarding our after hours actions agin by the douche 's groupies and knowing those type of people would easily can daddy and complain and tattletale.

Anyway, sorry to bitch, good one Scott.  Revenge will be mine :)

That was great!!!  I was asking one of our members that just returned from his final class about any "drama" from the course and he wanted to know what I heard.  Then he went into some issues regarding the program overall.  Midstream into the conversation, my phone beeped with a new email regarding "conduct, confession, explanation, validation".  I let him continue to vent.

One of the best ways to figure things out is to ask someone in your office and pose the question, "Is there anything you need to tell me".  You will be blown away!!

Love you guys
