Short Bio note of the Resource Person:

Professor Richard Smith has taught at University of Warwick since 2000, when he joined the Centre for English Language Teacher Education, precursor of the present Department of Applied Linguistics. Aside from teaching on the MA TESOL (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) programme, he has supervised 25 students to successful completion of a doctoral thesis, and he now also teaches first year undergraduates on the BA English Language and Linguistics programme. His research and professional interests lie in two main areas: history of language learning and teaching, and English language teacher development. To nourish the former area, he founded the Warwick ELT Archive (http://warwick.ac.uk/elt_archive) in 2002 and an international research network (http://hollt.net) in 2015. In the latter area, he is known for his leadership of international initiatives involving Exploratory Action Research, an Enhancement Approach to teacher development, and the engagement of ‘teacher-learner autonomy’, all of which also informed his recent work as co-leader of the WIHEA Learning Circle on Pedagogic Research in Higher Education. His most recent publication – Decentring ELT: Practices and Possibilities, co-edited with Amol Padwad – was published in April by AINET Association of English Teachers (India) with the A.S. Hornby Educational Trust.

Please consider to make arrangements to reach us who live overseas as well when such important events are organized.
If organizers can video record the session with the permission of the speaker. You will be able to share it among the members who miss the session.

This is just a suggestion.

Cheers

Yes, I agree with Darshana. Such an important, significant, and relevant talk needs to be recorded and archived for better dissemination among people who can not be present that day physically. Please think of it.

Dear Akshay

Many thanks for sharing the information with us every time. However, the majority of us in this forum are no longer students at the university or even residing in Hyderabad. I think if arrangements can be made to organise the talks using an online platform it will benefit the community immensely.
Request you to consider it.

Thank you and regards
Shravasti

Dear All,

While Akshay keeps us informed, he doesn't have decision-making authority. As former University student members, we're all familiar with event challenges. This non-official forum is meant for informal communication, job alerts, and similar matters. The Registrar or VC's office  is perhaps best suited for bringing such matters to action and hence a collective letter from alumni might receive some attention. Recording events requires administrative level approvals and there are protocols that need to be followed. It is not a simple matter of getting only the speaker's approval.

Akshay, thanks very much for bringing these events and collaborations to our attention.
