Great! We will be watching your progress and many of us will like to
try based on your example.

When you get the chance, please post your findings on the
efixusers.com forums as well so it can be stickied and converted to a
guide. I'll be happy to transcribe it for you but since it is your
work, I think it'd be best for you to do it. :)

In answer to your latest question on your blog, I encourage you to use
the efixusers.com forums. Much better formatting tools there.

Hi Mike,

let me terminate the blog and then I will post it again in the
efixusers.com forum. You are right, a forum software more and better
formatting. But having the same story in two different places is a
better solution. So it's more likely interested people will encounter
the info. Anyway I will link the Blog with the post in the forum. This
is also better for the forum, I think. More links to it, gives a
higher rating in google.

I'm DONE :-)

The only thing missing is some finetuning (SMBIOS stuff) and some
optimizations.

Have fun

Thanks very much for your tutorial!!! That helps a lot, and I am
booting in my leopard now. Then I will make my video card and others
working. Your post was just out after my EFI-X crash. It's very
inconvenient to send back my EFI-X to Taiwan. Maybe I will use this
solution in my production environment. Thanks again for you great
work :)

THANK YOU!

I am writing from leopard now - but without that stupid EFi-X thing,
thanks to your awesome blog I'm EFi-X free, too!!!

That's fantastic!

Best regards,
Doc

One BIG question left:

Maybe I've missed something but is there a way to install OS X from a
retail DVD with the help of chameleon _without_ any preexisting
installation (as mentioned in your blog)? Or do I have to "compile" my
own boot DVD from a retail DVD of OS X with the help of any special
tool like e.g. chameleon?

I've checked their homepage but couldn't find any specific information
regarding that topic. Thanks for any hint!

You will need a boot disc like Boot132 to get your installation disc
going. Once you have Mac OS X installed and a proper bootloader set
up, you won't need it anymore.

Hello,

As far as I understood and experienced, chameleon doesn't boot optical devices. You don't necessarily have to build a custom install DVD, what you can do is make a custom boot-123 dvd that will start EFI, then boot of your retail OS X install DVD.

Checkout efixusers.com you'll find guides there that will point you to the right places.

Cheers,

Ben

Ah, I see, boot-123 is the way to go - thank you very much, Mike and
Ben! :)

Hi!

I also wanted to thank AsereBLN for his nice blog! We PMed allready in
the official efix forum, where I hoped to get help regarding my -
during the firmwareupdate - broken EFI-X device.

I really like the Chameleon solution, although my internal sound chip
is not working up to now. But I hope I will find a solution :-)

greets, mongole

Yes, AsereBLN did a great job!

For me there's only one problem left: When I wake up my "Mac" from
Sleep I get an error message telling me that my USB-Stick (the one
with chameleon that I used to boot the computer) has been removed
without ejecting it - is there any workaround to avoid this error
message?

Thanks!

No new posts since my last visit?

So everybody is happy with his homegrown USB-get-rid-of-that-damn-EFIX-
thingy-OS-X-Boot-Stick and has successfully kicked the original one
out of the window or into the trash bin? :-))

Looks like it!

I'm really pleased with Chameleon. It works a treat once you get it right!

Can't wait for snow leopard support (and snow leopard to be officially released)!

Efix, I think I'll make earrings for my daughter.

LOL - that's great! :-)

...same to me - errgh, not with my daughter, but with my homegrown EFi-
X-dope - i love it, especially Chameleon and the fact that my
ridiculously cheap USB-thingy performs better in every respect than
the "original" one...
