Subject: Formal Complaint Letter on Professor Sweeney
To: USCMBAPM <uscm...@marshall.usc.edu>

Dear USC PM Office,

I am writing to bring to your attention to some serious issues of professionalism from Professor Sweeney.  Her lack of professionalism has greatly impeded the quality of education in the classroom.  Already, the class attendance has seen a significant drop and I feel it is a travesty that I am unable to learn also from my classmates due to,and I don't blame them, Professor Sweeny's childish teaching style.

In class yesterday, I had to leave in the middle of the class because I was deeply offended by her inappropriate language. This was not the first time. On multiple occasions she said, " Have you ever looked at someone and thought... Is this person human? Are they an alien?" and most of all,  to my horror, "Did they come from a person's womb?"  When she first said this in class on June 25th, on a lecture that was supposed to be on " Decision Making and Relevant Information Making." She also said this again in the last class, July 7th. I hope that Professor Sweeny is more sensitive to her language as such a phrase like that is not only exceptionally rude, but also insensitive to her students' religious beliefs.

During this class, she also cited on numerous examples, citing a persons' real name who had committed fraud in her previous work.  To this she said, "I'm just gonna say her real name because I hate her so much!" As a professor,  I do not think 1.) that is appropriate because someone may have known her name. or 2.) serves as good example for our classroom of integrity and ethics.

Other examples of unprofessionalism include arriving more than 15 minutes late to the midterm exam but not giving any additional time and taking a personal phone call from her husband in classroom, while she mandates all other students to have no laptop and cellphone use. I would also like to note that it was NOT an urgent or an emergency call.

As a student, I am deeply disappointed in her teaching. I strongly believe she does not match the caliber of USC's Marshall School of Business, and falls far in comparison to the other professors.  It is my most sincere recommendation for the quality of education that the PM office formally addresses her issues of professionalism.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,
Helen Lam
