Hi,

Though this post appeared over 3 years ago, had been receiving several calls and emails over the years from people inquiring about the availability of Dhurian ( Soursop )

Happy to share an update - came to know from one of the readers of this forum Mr.Krishna prasad, that the fruit is easily available in chennai markets (Koyambedu) and now farmers in Ooty (tamilnadu) and growing it regularly and available almost round the year (though summer is the ideal season) . My freinds in Bangalore too confirm that even fruit shops now have milk shakes with this ...

My disclaimer : iam NOT a doctor, nor do i have direct experience of seeing this in immediate family . But im getting calls of people who are seeing benefits after consuming this fruit for prolonged periods .

Please do consult with your doctor/physician about this cure , as the effectiveness may be based on type of cancer and the 'stage' of illness. But considering that the only alternative is chemotherapy , which is extremely painful (emotionally and phsyically) and expensive , this nature cure may be worth some exploration.

Most of my involvement has been in trying to 'procure' the fruit from growers, importers (malyasia) in past . As malaysia/far east had restrictions on import/trading of this fruit was a challenge in past. Just wanted to share we have 'locally grown' produce and is even cheaper (Rs 150-300) .

P.S :

The Facebook/twitter generation is famous for its 'fastest finger first' syndrome ... please READ and share with proper disclaimers as this may be an alternative for a MEDICAL therapy and NOT a MIRACLE cure.

Thanks Kimi frm Bangalore for what prompted the first post 3 years ago.... not sure if this may still be relevant to your friend today , but worth a pass on ...

A little correction. Soursop, a cousin, as it were of the custard Apple or Seetha Pazham, is very, very different from the Durian, a cousin, as it were of the Jack Fruit! It's good to know, however, that the Soursop is available and I am sure folks will consume it for its alleged medicinal properties. When it comes to taste, not withstanding it's ghastly smell, the Durian wins over the Soursop and most other tropical fruits..... But that is another story.

The dhurian/soursop post created a flurry of responses in facebook, linkedin and in emails.. The biggest confusion is still around whether dhurian and soursop are same or different ?Rathinda's response to the post , is simple and concise, being a wise-worldy traveller that he is - Thanks chairman.

I guess the 'legendary' elusive 'BAD ass' Durian is still out there in the far east ...and what is probably available in chennai markets is the 'soursop' cousin ..

the 'hunt' is on, and will probably need a visit to Koyambedu market and meet Mr. Pattu raja, king of the fruit mandi, to further this investigation....
