participate in a special program on Traceability in
Agriculture
Trimble is one of world's leading GPS/Laser based systems with applications in Farming , Transport, GIS Construction . Their India Business team head Rakesh Kadian and their tech/dealer representatives had met and visited @efarm office . Exciting to see some of the products and applications - ConnectedFarm a phone app which makes plotting land areas with great accuracy , their laser levellers, and the coolest one - 'a GPS' guided remotely controlled tractor .. talks are on to see if we could conduct the next weekend workshop at their pilot farm in Hyderabad - already TREMBLING with excitement !!

Tamilnadu agribusiness consortium organised a buyer-seller meet at Agri Marketing Board, Guindy. eFarm team was invited ot present our efarmdirect solution to the gathering.The meeting was chaired by Senior IAS officers Mr. Sandeep Saxena , (Agri Prodn commissioner) , Mr. Ravichandran (Agri Marketing Board), Mr. Satyabratha Sahu (Commisioner Horti & Plantation), Mr. Anil Meshram (Director, Agri marketing). Several progressive farmers across TN, Bulk buyers such as hotels, exporters, wholesale markets had attended.

Several 'corporate prisoners' escaped from their cells this weeknd . eFarm team actively aided and abetted their break-out . We had an interesting mix of participants for this weeknd's workshop - a 'hi-tech' couple from Tirunelveli , mid managers of HCL and Infosys , Farmer from Pondicherry,a 'Marwari' from Mumbai and the Founder of Greenland farms - the 'king' of sweet corn industry ! Had a 'jam packed' session , and with some interesting 'new' faculty - the all womens team of Spaces (AS SEEN ON TV!!!) - home gardening startrup (the founders Shainka and Uma were workshop alumni of Aug 2012 batch !) and the 'vegetable vendors' (Chellama and team of Loganathan colony ) who took the group on a guided tour of Koyambedu market.

Backward traceability is a key concern, especially for 'exporters' as in case of any contamination , legal /insurance and compliance requires ability to track back to the source . As India's supply chain has several even more basic issues, this has been a key challenge area for Government and UN agencies who want to bring some standardisation in global food supply chain. Usualy such extension training programs by UN are done for acaedmicians and govt officials and tagregeted the 'existing' farmers . But as current farmers do not understand such high technology, and often dont see immediate benefit (in monetary terms) the adoption has been very poor.
For first time, United Nations' APCTT centre (Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) ) and UNESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific ) has invited eFarm's CEO Srivalli Krishnan to be a part of their electronic traceability training and outreach project and help promote this concept amongst the young agri-entrepreneurs .
