Secretary General's Message
I bring you warm greetings from the AAU Secretariat.
The International Youth Day will be celebrated on Saturday 12th August 2017. This is a day set aside by the United Nations and this year it is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to conflict prevention and transformation as well as inclusion, social justice, and sustainable peace.
The AAU joins the world in celebrating this day. The current generation of youth are the largest in history and we cannot ignore them. It is important that we come together to devise strategies for the full participation of youth and involve them in visioning the future.
Our challenge as Institutions of Higher Education is how to plan for the youth bulge - and ensure that we have sufficient faculty and resources to train the increasing number of youth that need access to higher education. We need to delve deeper and design strategies for job creation in response to the increasing youthful population.
Please join the social media conversations concerning the 2017 International Youth Day using the following hash tags - #YouthDay #Youth4Peace #ActOn2250
Yours in the service of higher education in Africa
Professor Etienne Ehouan Ehile
