Environmental Literacy Plan Listening Session Reminder!
The South Dakota Discovery Center invites all South Dakotans to offer their input on developing the environmental literacy of South Dakota’s students. Parents, teachers, administrators, natural resource professionals, industry leaders, and citizens interested in the environment and education are invited to participate in a listening session on Thursday October 27 at 6:30PM or Friday October 28 at 9:00AM at the Outdoor Campus East in Sioux Falls.
Environmental literacy is having the knowledge, understanding, skills and motivation to wisely and sustainably use, enjoy and protect the environment. K-12 education has a role in developing the environmental literacy of children in partnership with families, communities and government. At the listening session, we want to hear your ideas about what should be included in this plan. In short, what do you think needs to happen in K-12 education for youth to become environmentally literate?
Additional listening sessions are scheduled for Pierre, Eagle Butte, Rosebud, Huron and Spearfish during late fall/winter. Check the South Dakota Discovery Center website (www.sd-discovery.com) or the Environment Education Connections of South Dakota (www.eecsd.org) for times and locations.
