Apologies for cross postings.

Hello All,

As we move into 2011, I would like to move the development of an environmental literacy plan for South Dakota forward.  To this end, I have put together a rudimentary website about a SD ELP.  It can be found at: http://www.sd-discovery.com/EECSD/SDELP.htm

One of the assets we have as we move forward is that other states have gone before us.  Several have completed environmental literacy plans.  Others are well on their way and have shared their planning processes.  These documents are posted to that page. If you have other examples, please send them to me so I can post them as well.

At the bottom of the webpage linked above is a Phase I plan.  There is a generic “sign up here if you are interested” notification on the bottom of the page.  However, I’m asking you to consider becoming more involved.

You will see that one of the steps is to hold a vision-casting/brainstorming/next steps meeting. At the end of the April, South Dakota has an opportunity to take a team to Colorado to network with other EPA Region 8 states that are working on developing an environmental literacy plan for their states.  I would like to schedule a gathering either shortly before or after the Colorado meeting to work on our own state plan.

I would like your suggestions as to who “needs to be at the table” for the South Dakota meeting.

Even if you are unable to attend the meeting in April, I still invite you to be a part of this initiative.  Review the finished environmental literacy plans.  Go through the planning documents.  Start jotting down your ideas about a South Dakota ELP.

Let me know how you want to be involved.  This is the time for South Dakota to develop its plan.

Regards,

Anne

I don’t know if you have secondary ed representation in mind, but I would love to be involved.

Robin.

Since I live in Nebraska and work at UNL, I'm probably not eligible but I would very much like to work on this with the SD folks since I missed out on working with the Nebraska people--only limited input from a high school teacher's perspective on their plan.  I pushed environmental ed while on the Rosebud at SGU and tailored my science classes and special topics around environmental issues.  I'm using environmental issues as a 'hook' in the secondary science methods class I'm teaching this semester--really trying to show the powers that be that education is on board with the new Water Institute here at UNL.  If you think I can help, I'd love to come to SD!

Anne –

I would be willing to help you plan your plan.  I think EDWDD could help market/campaign the idea.

Also, I haven’t heard any more about the Region 8 Environmental Literacy planning team?  I came in on the Region 8 conference (about 20 min late as I had another meeting) call they had a couple months back, but haven’t heard anything since.  Is each state working on their own thing now?
