tldr: Do you have any major objections to a schedule with games Tuesdays, 7-10pm? Can your team use more players?

Hi Captains,

I (finally) heard back from Cal Rec Sports. They can accommodate us from 8-10pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, or 7-10pm on just Tuesdays. I'm guessing that archery is still using the field until 8pm on Mondays.

My plan is to go with the 7-10pm Tuesday slot. This will give us flexibility if we add another team—I'm working the details of that out with some of the new recruits from GradFest. If that doesn't work out, we can try switching to the 1.5 hour game format (2 games per week, teams get a bye every 4 weeks or so) that we discussed at the captains meeting. Please let me know by the end of today if you do or do not have any major objections to Tuesdays 7-10pm. From past surveys, the league seemed pretty ambivalent about games either Mondays or Tuesdays, and I believe the biggest concern was for off-campus folks making a 7pm starting time.

Second, I'll be looking at distributing the new recruits in the next day or so. We may have up to 10, even with a new team. Please tell me if you think your team needs more players (and also if your team can't really accommodate any more).

I'm sorry for needing such rapid turnaround, but I want to get the league schedule out ASAP since we're now one week away. Thanks for your patience,

-Mitch

We have a few players that are playing IM soccer on Tuesdays and will have conflicts.

We also have a good number of players and do not need more

Mitch,

Tuesday works for SMS. We have quite a few interest players, so I think we are good on that front.

Hi Mitch,

It seems like Tuesdays largely work for DOF but I know of at least one player with a conflict. Also I’m pretty sure we won’t need more players since we just merged teams this summer, but will let you know if we do.

Maybe you discussed this at the captain’s meeting, but what’s the impetus for going back to Golden Bear field?

Hi Mitch,

Tuesdays are actually better for most players on Tsar Bomba. The others are neutral about it.

Best,

Maria

Thanks everyone. Since it seems that it's no more than a few conflicts from any team, we'll stick with the Tuesday schedule. I'm sending a league-wide email out next to make folks aware of this, and I'll be putting together a schedule to get out no later than the end of the day Saturday. Either way, your teams should plan on having a game next Tuesday, sometime between 7-10pm.

Will, to answer your question: I found out in late August that Cal Athletics wouldn't be able to accomodate us on Levine-Fricke Field this Fall. I wasn't able to get a straight answer for why, but their staff alluded to the fact that Cal Softball would be using the field more regularly and that it is also scheduled to be renovated starting in November. I'm wondering if they're readjusting their scheduling regarding the renovations--I think I heard that renovating Golden Bear Field has been held up with legal issues between the school and the neighbors of Clark-Kerr, where I'd guess they have more control over the renovations for Levine-Fricke.
