Hi Captains,

I got some more information back from the Intercollegiate Athletics about the new field:
  • Metal cleats are not allowed (same as before)
  • 7-10pm on Mondays is likely doable, but if the softball playoffs go late, they may get in the way with this; this may not be determined for a little while still.
  • Lights do shut off right at 10pm, due to contracts with neighbors.
In light of the last two, I think we have a couple options:
  1. We keep everything the same as it's always been, Mondays/Tuesdays 8-10pm. The only difference is that we bump everything up so that games start right on the hour, and aim to end 10 mins before the next hour.
  2. We try for all 3 games on Mondays, 7-10pm. If softball playoffs get in our way, then we try to revert to the Monday/Tuesday option for just those weeks. In this scenario we also bump everything up so that games start right on the hour, and aim to end 10 mins before the next hour.
  3. We explore keeping the Mondays/Tuesdays pattern, but slide games up something like 15-30 mins so that we can keep the lights on for a bit after we finish.
If you could let me know what your thoughts are I'd really appreciate it. I want to make sure that this transition works best for the most people. Feel free to throw something else out too if you have other ideas.

Thanks!

-Mitch

I'd say option 2 would be great with start times being 6:50, 7:50, and 8:50pm. Umpires will need to be a little more strict with the cutoff times so that we don't risk ending a game in the dark. If we need to do Mon/Tue, maybe just schedule that for the first month and go to all Monday starting in June (or whenever the last possible playoff date would be).

I contacted my team about this yesterday. I have not heard from everyone, but so far no one has any problems with an all Monday schedule, and quite a few of them actually prefer it. So I vote Option 2.

Oh, I forgot to mention. One of my players says she has played on this field before and has encountered some issues:

" I've played on this field in the past for IM softball and we've had a slurry of issues (consistently no lights for night games but also occasional unscheduled field maintenance, power washing, locked gates, etc) "

I just wanted to share this info with you all. I am not sure if we are talking with the same people that IM would talk with, but we may need to be on our toes for things like this.

Hi Captains,

Any more word from your teams on this? If not, it sounds like trying to go with the second option has been favored.

Hey sorry. Forgot to respond. IHT has a lot of people working around the Bay and commuting back these days and a 7pm start would be tough for us. For that reason, we have a preference for options 1 or 3. Alternatively, if we did option 2 but minimized the number of times IHT plays at 7 that would help.

People on Tsar Bomba are either neutral or would prefer to have games on Mondays only.

Best,

I've had similar responses from ISchoolU so far. Mostly neutral or leaning towards all games on Monday/earlier starting time. Monday is generally better for folks who play in the city league and have games on Tuesdays.
