Hello softballers!
The semester is underway, and that means softball is right around the corner. I just received confirmation yesterday that our requested dates and times are clear, so we have a season. Our first set of games are going to be next Tuesday, September 24.
You may have already heard from your captains, but we will be returning to the one-and-only Golden Bear Softball Field this fall. Yes, the renovations have been delayed and so Cal Athletics is asking us to move back there, at least for now. After testing out the 7-10pm format this past summer, we'll be sticking with that through the fall, but now moving games to Tuesdays. This will keep us out of the way of archery who still uses the field on Mondays until 8pm. It also means that our games will go back to being scheduled on the hour (first pitch Berkeley-time). Look for a finalized schedule to be ready by this weekend, and I'll let you all know once it is up. Either way, plan to play next Tuesday evening.
On a different note, you're likely aware that each team in our league provides volunteer umpires for each other's games. We're always looking to have more people share in this responsibility, since they really keep the league running smoothly. If you can, this is a great way to give back to the league in a low-commitment way. I'll be running an umpire training session at 6pm next Tuesday (immediately before our first set of games) and then another at the same time the following week. Talk to your captains if you're interested in umping; we'd like to have at least 2 trained umpires per team.
As always, feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions. Can't wait to see you all on the field next week. Go Bears!!
