Hello,

I am having a hell of a time finding a reference for simple speed/fuel efficieny work in typical commuter type vehicles.  While there are hundreds of blogs and news articles, I can find nothing in the way of a "fuel efficiency study" that basically outlines the decline of mpg as speed increases past 65 or whatever.  most of the pop press stuff offers nil in the way or primary sourcing...which I was banking on.  Anyone have a ref on hand they can offer?

Thanks

Eric

fueleconomy.gov presents this pretty figure.

Roughly speaking, fuel economy improves by 1% per mph reduction over 60 mph.

They likely reference the study on their site.

Saul Griffith did a test with his car and included his results in his
public talks. I don't know if they are online, but may be.

Air resistance is the main loss at higher speeds and its power goes
like velocity cubed. That would get you a reasonable first order
estimate, especially at the high end.
