PROJECT: STUDENT & AUTOMOTIVE
Introduction
I am a teacher (physics, mathematics) from the Netherlands.
To put the profession of Automotive Engineers in the focus of European
young people, I created
an on-line community for pre-university students: Student & Automotive
(www.student-automotive.com <http://www.student-automotive.com>).
The aims for the students are:
a. to acquire knowledge about the automotive industry, universities
(studies) and organizations
b. to learn how they can solve automotive problems by using their
knowledge and skills of
physics and mathematics
a. to understand that the study of physics and mathematics can be
meaningful and relevant to their
professional preparation and career opportunities
a. to get the opportunity for working within international-teams
b. to gain the possibility of reporting and communicating about their
work in the English language
c. to improve their learning methods and self-control.
Countries and content
Relevant universities, organizations and manufacturers in Europe: United
Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Italy, Spain and
worldwide are selected, contacted and informed about Student & Automotive.
For a general automotive introduction, parts of relevant web-sites are
retrieved. In partnership with several companies: Morgan, Jaguar,
Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Michelin and MathWorks technical information is
selected. Links aretal investigation, construction and design are formulated.
Students are invited to study the information, solve the problems and
communicate with other students, universities, organizations and
manufacturers in Europe or worldwide.
Method
The students work alone, form a school-team or an international-team for
executing different tasks.
A text about learning processes is added.
The reporting and communication is realized by means of a forum.
For further information about a company or organization the students visit
the linked site.
To improve the quality of the site students, teachers and specialists are
invited to mail their ideas.
Teachers
Relevant (science, mathematics, physics, "design") teachers are invited to
embed this project in their
curriculum.
To start this project, I am looking for co-operation with schools and
teachers in Europe.
I kindly ask you to inform your school, teacher, school-net or relevant
organization about Student & Automotive.
I am looking forward to receive your reaction.
With kind regards,
Robert J. Fonteijne
