Stanford has made a number of changes to the edx-certificates code. We'd like to merge those changes, but we'd also like to get other opinions.

If you use the certificates code, can you take a look at this pull request? https://github.com/edx/edx-certificates/pull/54

Thanks,

--Ned.

I had discussed it with Steven both in Stanford last year and Madrid this year. We were planning to switch to Stanford's version sooner than later, but as long as the merge will still allow us to produce PDF certificates in Hawthorn and beyond, we're ok with it.

It was on our roadmap a few weeks ago when I thought the merge would end up in Ginkgo, but when it didn't I put it in my personal backlog. I might have to push it back to the top.

We will look into it and test it in our test environment later this year.

We stopped using the edx-certificates repo because it was too hardcoded. Since Dogwood version we use the webview certificates.
I got the chance to see these Standford changes live with some examples with Steve in Madrid and it makes a complete new difference comparing with the old version. Now it is much more configurable, so we may try it.
