Open edx Video problem and ways of contribution in the platform

Hello Community members,

I have some questions regarding the platform. Please help me to find answers for the same.

1. What are the problems with the existing video built-in component of Open edX? 
   
2. Some of the problems were reported in 2016, what is the current status regarding development happen in video content delivery component of the platform?
   
3. I am interested in the video component specifically. So, is it possible to replace the video built-in functionality? Is this available as a component that can be replaced? If not then what are the other means to do it?
4. Does, xBlock is unit of course content or the platform code is moduled into a series of xblocks? 
5. Is xBlock a general way of modularizing anything or is it only for the Open edX platform
